Because the knowledge of suitability that has become the cause, is to show the self-nature luminosity, so suitability itself is self-cognizant valid cognition. Regarding this, it is also said: Because that is also the nature of experience, so the self-nature knowledge is suitability. Therefore, suitability is the nature of valid cognition, the object to be measured is the fruit of self-cognition. If one cuts down a sandalwood tree, etc., this is to welcome the doubt of Kumārila's accusation. If the Vaibhāṣikas assert that valid cognition and its result are different, then valid cognition and its result will become different objects, which is also unreasonable. When the axe of cutting falls on the sandalwood tree, it will not cut down the palāśa tree. Therefore, valid cognition and its result are not non-different because their objects are the same. Here, Kumārila says: If someone wants the object to be the same, saying that valid cognition is the result, then, for him, the prover and the proven will be harmed by worldly people. Just as the cutter falls on the sandalwood tree, it does not cut down the palāśa tree. Similarly, in the world, cutting and axe are not one together. To this, the answer is given by saying that because it is the cutter, it is cutting, not etc. This is because blue is reason, yellow is not reason, the reason for distinguishing the perception of the object in this way is because it is the same as the thing, not other, thus distinguishing the nature of the distinguishable and the distinguished, distinguishing the prover and the proven, not distinguishing the producer and the produced things. Because in the ultimate sense, the agent and action and other things do not exist, because all dharmas are momentary, so there is no action. When knowledge arises as the image of the object, it appears to be acting as if it is completely cutting off the object, in reality, the dharma of knowledge, the action of knowing is this, not just that it will not arise if it is not there. By what does knowledge itself become valid cognition? It is not that sprouts etc. will not arise if there are no seeds etc. Therefore, knowledge with an image is not valid cognition, knowledge without an image is not valid cognition, thus distinguishing, valid cognition itself

It should be practiced accordingly. And, it should be known that establishment also arises from the subsequent conceptualization. Therefore, the objection is refuted by what is commonly known in the world by saying, "Different conceptualizations," and so on. The phrase "like a bow, etc." means that the bow pierces. Just as an arrow pierces by relying on a bow, examining the agent, etc., for a single bow is not contradictory, so it is here as well. When it is said, "An axe cuts wood, etc.," the object to be cut itself exists. For that which is cut, since it is the dharma of realizing the nature of the axe, in the ultimate sense, it is one with the cutting, so there is no contradiction. This is shown by "establishment is established," and so on. As it is said in Kumālarī, "By the fruit of complete cutting." etc., just as the result of valid cognition is established by the nature of what is to be produced and what produces, so it is not contradictory for us either. As the teacher said, for this, there is no contradiction in imputing manifestness to its cause, such as the eye. Without a doubt, one must first establish what is to be proven and what proves through the means of establishment, this is just what is to be said. If different cognitions are not established as different objects, then it is certainly impossible to enter. Even if different cognitions are established, since similarity is the cause, similarity actually becomes the excellent proof. Cognition enters through similarity, and if it enters, it wants to enter as valid cognition, not with an attachment to what is to be examined. As it is said, "All that is functional is related to the cognition of approaching the meaning, seek for valid and invalid cognition." It should be pointed out by which part its cognition enters. If valid cognition is established by the nature of what is to be produced and what produces, then the limb of entry is recognized as similarity. If this is the case, then establishing valid cognition through the means of arising will become fruitless. Therefore, the teacher thought that establishing valid cognition through this means is not a limb of entry.
