Who has taken away the individual self-natures of the earth? Therefore, realizing the unseen light is meaningless. For things that are far and near, grasping and not grasping become the same. Regarding what was said, "far away," etc., it is because gradual grasping is not established, since at the very moment of the combination of sounds, all knowledge arises simultaneously. Regarding what was said, "clarity and otherness, etc., will not arise either," just as when grasping forms that are not in contact and not pervasive, clarity and non-clarity are seen, so too, sound should logically become clear and other, etc., when grasping what is not pervasive and not in contact. However, for others, is it not established that grasping occurs without contact? If you ask how that can be stated as an example, there is no fault in this. If, for others, it is not established merely by words, even so, whatever is established by valid cognition is not established for either of the two. So, what is valid cognition here? It is the simultaneous grasping of what is near and what is distant. Whatever has the ability to travel quickly reaches what is near, and reaches what is distant after a long time, just like Devasbyin (a proper name) going from a village to another place. Branches of trees and the moon are also seen to be grasped simultaneously at the moment of opening the eyes. Therefore, it should be understood that the eye grasps without contact. Here, the one who makes light says: Because knowledge arises quickly, it is not grasping at different times, but is itself a reversed knowledge, like piercing a hundred lotus petals. That is not correct, because if it were so, there would be no gradual clinging to the ocean and taste, etc., because the speed of arising is the same. If that were the case, cognition would not become different. Since all intelligence has the ability to arise quickly, it will never grasp sequentially, and this has already been extensively analyzed. Furthermore, that very person says: If the eye grasps without contact, then walls, etc., would have no ability to obstruct, therefore obstruction is unreasonable, and it would also not be the case that what is very far away is not grasped, but what is near is grasped, because there is no difference. Like this, what kind of object is the eye's field...

If you think that only what changes is the object, and what does not change is not the object, that is not the case, because it is unreasonable to become an object without a connection. What is it to be an object without a connection? What you call the object is just called a connection, and there is no difference. They say that. That is not correct, because we say that the cause is the nature of the object, not the connection. For example, when the eye consciousness arises, it is shown that the objects such as form act together, and then it is said to be the object, but it is not mixed with it. There are two meanings of acting together: helping each other, such as entering the dark from the light; acting on the same thing, such as grasping the form just by opening the eyes. In either case, the difference of the cause of consciousness is said to be the object, not the connection. If you say that the difference of each determined cause will not change without connection, that is not the case, because the determination is achieved from the power of one's own cause. Because some will become the cause of producing consciousness, and some will not, this is because when it arises from its own cause, only what has become like that will arise. Because all things are different in nature because of different causes. For example, you are the same in connection, but why does the eye only act on form, but not on taste? If you say that it does not act because it has no connection with it, why does it not become a connection? Because the objects are not different. If the objects are not different, but the eye definitely grasps the form, even if it is in that object, but it does not grasp the taste, there is no other reason for this, nor is the object in a very distant place, but it determines its own cause. This is the same for the unencountered party, and that's enough. "Different appearances, all minds," etc. are to avoid the blame of others. How can different appearances of wisdom become one object? If that is the case,
