At that time of certainty, those become the meaning of obtaining and abandoning. Furthermore, the terms 'inference' and 'to infer' would also disappear. Like this, at the time of inference, it is certain that a subject or a dharma must be ascertained by another valid cognition. And that, too, is of an uncertain nature, because it cannot be ascertained by direct perception, nor by inference, because it would become the fault of infinite regress. Because there is no other valid cognition, all terms would be forced to cease. If that were the case, it would not be so. Therefore, for those who argue that this proposition of 'no conceptualization' is harmed by inference, since inference and other terms apply to convention, therefore, it is said, 'able to generate various,' and so forth. Through that gateway, that is, through the gateway of conceptualization. Even without conceptualization, it becomes a part of all terms because it is the cause of certainty. For example, even direct perception, which is free from conceptualization, generates the appearance of fire and other objects that are distinct from similar and dissimilar classes, and from that, discrimination arises. That is because it grasps the object that abides as the nature of certainty, and because it follows the aspect of the object that turns away from dissimilar classes, so for that very object, the aspect of establishment and refutation arises, such as, 'This is fire, not the blossoming flower of the Ashoka tree.' Those conceptualizations, too, because they are indirectly related to the object, even if they are non-deceptive, are not considered valid cognitions, because appearance and conceptualization engage by clinging to one, so the nature of the object is not understood, because there is no conceptualization. For that very reason, it is the cause of two conceptualizations.

If someone asks: Since the sound and other dharmas of direct perception have been established, then the subsequent conceptual thought arising from it is no longer a valid cognition? Answer: This fault does not exist. Even if direct perception arises, it only grasps the part that generates attachment and considers it expressible. However, due to the reason of illusion, the fabricated part intervenes, so it cannot generate attachment. Because it cannot be expressed, even if it is grasped, it is equivalent to not grasping. Therefore, in order to eliminate the fabrication on it, the subsequent conceptual thought is a valid cognition. But it is not the conceptual thought that arises immediately after direct perception, because it cannot eliminate the fabrication on it. Furthermore, why is it that even when an experience of the essence of a thing that is different from all aspects arises, the certainty of recollection does not arise in the same way as the experience itself? Answer: Because it depends on other factors. Just like experience, it will not necessarily become certainty, because it depends on other factors such as habit, effort, and distraction. Just as there is no difference between a biological father and an adoptive father, but when seeing the biological father, one will be certain "This is my biological father," and will not think it is the adoptive father. Here, by generating conceptual thoughts that distinguish things, the limbs of convention are also destroyed, and what is the correct valid cognition is shown. Such as "Non-conceptual cannot generate conceptual." Sensory consciousness is not the cause of mental consciousness that is co-born with conceptual thought, because the object is different, just like the consciousness of form and touch, etc. Also because it is non-conceptual. Just like eye consciousness, etc. The example of this reason of different object is like form, etc. The reason of non-conceptual is like eye, etc. Therefore, it will be explained to refute by "Here," etc. Both reasons are uncertain, because it has not been shown that the reason contradicts the thesis and contradicts simultaneously. These refer to the reasons.

O! The statement "different objects are also not" means that even if it is connected with the object, this argument is not established because the objects of discrimination are different. In order to show that if, in the ultimate sense, discrimination is without an object, then it is even more obvious that it is not established. Therefore, "in reality" etc. are mentioned. By "forms, sounds, etc. are minds", etc., it is shown that the example of "like the consciousness of forms, etc." is not completely established. The consciousnesses of forms, sounds, etc. are the same because they have the nature of the immediately preceding condition, therefore it is the cause. Moreover, in order to show that the argument "because of different objects" exists in the opposite side, and thus to show that the argument is uncertain, it is said "here there is fire and smoke" etc. "Here" refers to the argument of "different objects". Just as the consciousness of the sign of fire etc. and the consciousness of the sign of smoke etc., although the objects are different, are also the cause, so also in this case, the argument is uncertain. Thus, after establishing that direct perception is free from conceptual thought, in order to show the necessity of saying "non-deceptive", "non-deceptive" etc. are mentioned. Here, "non-deceptive" should be regarded as "non-false". It is not merely focusing on the way things actually exist, because if it were not so, then the object of the Yogacara school would not be established, and the definition of direct perception that wants to rely on both schools would not be all-pervasive. However, "non-false" is also the ability to accomplish the desired meaning, it is the ability to obtain, but not already obtained, because there is the possibility of obstacles etc. If so, then it would be sufficient to say only "non-deceptive", why is it necessary to say "free from conceptual thought"? Answer: Because the subsequent cognition after discrimination will also become direct perception. "Some of them also claim that it is consciousness." This saying means that it is not appropriate to say only "non-deceptive". However, even if it is admitted that it is consciousness, it is still necessary to say "non-deceptive".
