The common uncertainty has been clarified. If someone thinks that in inference, there is no object of conceptualization, this is not established. Then, examples such as people and the like are given. The argument is: whatever is empty in a certain way is not the object of that way. For example, color consciousness is not the object of sound. If it is said that inferential knowledge is also empty of external objects, this is a contradictory pervasion. The reason is not unestablished either, because whatever is clear like fire etc., is not like the appearance of inferential knowledge, i.e., not the same, because the latter is not clear. If it were not so, then just as the distinct characteristics of grass and leaf fires etc. appear in direct perception, they would also appear in inferential knowledge. In this way, having abandoned the distinct characteristics, with the general characteristic of following that can be understood, hidden fires etc. appear in inference. With the nature of general and particular characteristics, the two contradicting each other, it is also unreasonable to exist in one thing. As previously stated. The reason is not contradictory either, because it exists in the similar class. It is not uncertain either, because it would be too extreme. Measurability etc., with these, the light-making valid cognition is doubted, they say: whatever appears as blue etc., the object being completely cut off, is produced from experience, because it is measurable, impermanent, a result, a condition, having a cause, like the mind of another continuum. Saying that all these reasons are wrong, i.e., uncertain, because measurability etc. may also exist in inner experience. Similarly, for those with cataracts etc., the two moons etc. that appear are also uncertain, because for those who consider the moon etc. as the object of conceptualization, considering the two moons etc. as measurable knowledge, for those knowledges that show them, it is not so, because they do not cling to meaning.

Marks and the like are not essential, because there is no attachment to meaning. This is what was said. Regarding this, with words such as "external object," some doubt that according to Kumārila's view, the locus of illusion is not established. Because he says: Here, for yellow and the moon, etc., placing yellow as the very locus of illusion, the object of the external conch, etc., is perceived with the nature of yellow, etc. Therefore, illusion is not established. Here it is said: Appearing as it is, etc. Here, the meaning of the collection is this: Whatever appearance appears to whatever consciousness, it is cognized by that very appearance, which is reasonable. Otherwise, all consciousnesses would become the object of all things. Therefore, appearance pervades cognition. The white appearance does not appear to the consciousness with the yellow appearance, because the intention to appear is not seen. Therefore, when the pervader, appearance, disappears, the pervaded, cognition, also disappears. The argument is: Whatever does not appear in any form is not to be cognized by it, just as form is to the consciousness of sound. The nature of the white conch also does not appear to the consciousness with the yellow appearance, which is because the pervader is not seen. Moreover, with the words "cognition," etc., this shows that it contradicts one's own tenet. For that very reason, it becomes too extreme, thereby establishing self-cognition. Therefore, it refutes the Vaiseṣika's view that mind is not direct perception and has no appearance. Therefore, etc., as a conclusion. When discriminating, one is actually discriminating that the thing itself has another appearance. This also refutes what Kumārila said. If, etc., Kumārila's own thread of valid cognition is cut. Whatever consciousness that grasps form is different from that form, because when that form is cognized, it is not cognized. Like grasping, etc. In another way, form, etc., as the object to be grasped, is different from the grasper, for example, because the grasper is conceptual and non-conceptual, like grasping taste, etc. Or, both, form, etc.
