If I were to prove something that needs to be expressed with a sound of reason in a certain way, then achieving the desired result in that way is possible. Because it is similar to the sound of a cow, speech and so on are not proven to have horns. Furthermore, relying on the nature of phenomena such as blueness that exist in consciousness, if both consciousness and its phenomena are considered as a reason for the whole, then this is an established establishment. As it is said: The whole of consciousness and its phenomena, its phenomena are consciousness itself. If these two are established without difference, then the establishment becomes an establishment upon establishment. Thinking like this, the venerable Geshe welcomed his doubts and mentioned "the image of the phenomenon of meaning" and so on. This is both the phenomenon of meaning and similar to meaning, and also an image, that is, an appearance, so it is the image of the phenomenon of meaning. This "this" is two ways of proving, because for those who say there is no phenomenon, this is obvious, therefore it is not an establishment upon establishment. After approaching, there is also no cognition of other things, because there is no reason for assumption. Thus, after temporarily showing that consciousness without phenomena cannot cognize external things, in order to show that relying on the second view, that is, the view with phenomena, is also not established, so "similarity" and so on are mentioned. From where can one determine things by relying on it? The cognition of true phenomena is impossible, and the cognition of things by false phenomena is also impossible, because this kind of phenomenon also exists in the consciousness of illusion. If the phenomena are all false, then how is it? "From consciousness" and so on are mentioned. When seeing a variegated cushion, because there is no difference from one consciousness, so like the nature of consciousness, the phenomena will not become multiple either. Similarly, because there is no difference from the phenomena, consciousness will also become multiple. Those who think that similar consciousnesses are also as many as the number of phenomena, like variegated cushions and so on, simultaneously generating consciousnesses that cognize different shapes and sounds and so on, if this is really the case, then they will fall into the fault of establishment upon establishment, the view of those who think like this is like this.
