Connected with the subsequent, it is also not a reason with a clear appearance, because having a general appearance is unclear. It is also not reasonable for conceptualization to be without a general appearance. Some think that just like impermanence, etc., atoms are also established by valid cognition. Like this, whatever is coarse is of the nature of an aggregation of minute particles, like mountains, etc. That which is apprehended by the eye, having external limbs, is also coarse, which is called the reason of self-nature. Mentioning that which is apprehended by the eye is for the purpose of distinguishing cases such as the combination of two atoms, which are not apprehended by the eye. Therefore, if here, based on the dharma of things called "because it is coarse," the very coarseness of the ultimate truth is stated as the reason, then at that time, for the opponent, for both the subject of the proposition and the example, when "coarseness itself" is not established, the reason itself is not established, and the example is also incomplete. If the fame that has not been examined among shepherds, etc., is considered to be the essence of a pleasant appearance that pervades the object, then at that time, even though deluded knowledge such as dreams does not have an accumulation of atoms, because it has the nature of appearing in that way, the reason is uncertain. If it is said to be the nature of being non-deluded, and this difference is acknowledged, then for the Mind-Only school, as long as the difference in the appearance of knowledge such as dreams is not distinguished from the appearance of knowledge such as eyes, etc., which exist by their own nature, then in any case, the nature of being non-deluded will not be established, so the difference is also not established. Some think that the difference between knowledge such as eyes, etc., which exist by their own nature, and knowledge such as dreams, is that they are not deceptive in accomplishing their function, so there is a difference. Then, what is meant by not being deceptive in accomplishing a function? If it is said to be obtaining an external object, then this is not established. Because it is for establishing an external object, this is precisely the occasion for what needs to be established. If it is said that the knowledge itself that appears to accomplish the desired meaning is not deceptive in accomplishing its function,

(Nam mkha'i gos can legs pa'i blo gros)认为:因为知识没有道理。

At that time, even without anything else, that is, without an external object as the target, this is also possible. Even so, this argument is still uncertain. If asked, how else is it possible? The answer is: because the power of the cause is certain. Thus it is said, this is the argument. The cause refers to the immediately preceding similar condition. Because the difference in the power of the immediately preceding similar condition is certain, only some immediately preceding similar conditions can produce some knowledge, but not all. For example, what you say, "just like an external object," from this it can be determined. By saying "two atoms" etc., the Sky-Clothed Good Intelligence (Nam mkha'i gos can legs pa'i blo gros) thinks: because knowledge has no reason. This is to show that this argument is not established. That is said like this: because all things are of the nature of the general and the particular, atoms are of two natures, the same and the different. Among them, the same nature is what can be perceived by the senses, but the different nature is not. Therefore, knowledge with a single image is not contradictory to atoms, so atoms are manifestly existent. Confusion means instability, because one nature is uncertain. If asked, hasn't it already been said that the nature of two things is a definite nature? The answer is: it is true that it is said, but this is to show that it is said unreasonably. Therefore, it is said "because of what, how" etc., because the nature of things is not other than two, it will become two things, merely two natures, because they are not each other's natures. In this way, it is unreasonable for one thing to have two natures. Even if the two natures are each other's self-nature, but just like the self-nature of one thing, the two natures are not different from one thing, how can they become the nature of one or two? Furthermore, because there is no difference from the nature of the general, it will become merely distinguishing the nature of the particular. If this is the case, then the same nature is the object of sensory cognition, while the different nature is considered to be the direct perception of yoga, which is an unconfused distinction.
