It is only stating belief, because excluding other meanings from an existing thing does not establish that thing itself, just as fire does not arise from flint. If it were not so, if it did not state any nature, then because all natures are excluded, it would only become a non-existent thing. Because the characteristic of a non-existent thing is the exclusion of all natures. The argument is: whatever thing, from whatever thing, the self-nature that excludes other meanings is that thing itself, that is that thing itself. For example, form, from its own self-nature, the self-nature that excludes other meanings is that thing itself. Claiming that "the person is also from form, etc., the self-nature that excludes other meanings is that thing itself," this is the reason of self-nature. A thing does not go beyond the thing itself, neither being itself nor other, therefore the pervasion of the fundamental reason is established. Thus, after temporarily admitting that it is inexpressible, it is shown that the person will become the subject of the sign. Even if it is admitted that the person itself is a thing, it is not reasonable to consider it inexpressible. If it were not so, it would be thought that the vow contradicts one's own words, therefore it is concluded that "the person is not other than the aggregates." Etc. Furthermore, you claim that the person is inexpressible, which shows that the person is expressed by the sound that most clearly appears from the aggregates. That is, "related to contradictory dharmas." Etc. The argument is: those persons who have mutually exclusive dharmas are different from each other. For example, form and the experiencer, which have the dharmas of having a body and not having a body. The aggregates and the person also have mutually contradictory dharmas such as expressible and inexpressible, this is the reason of self-nature. In order to show that this reason is not unestablished, it is said, "For example, from feeling, etc." Etc. For example, the person is considered to be inexpressible as being the same as or different from feeling and consciousness, etc. And form and feeling, etc., are considered to be mutually different from those feelings, etc., therefore the reason is not unestablished.

Furthermore, to demonstrate the establishment of possessing a dharma contradictory to this, such as "form and other aggregates," etc. Because it has been said, "All conditioned phenomena are impermanent," therefore form and others should be described as impermanent. Some argue that the person (pudgala) should not be described as impermanent, because it cannot be described in any way. But the reason is not uncertain, because the reason for the designation of difference is limited to this. If it were not so, all multiplicity would become one thing. If it were so, then it would follow that they arise and perish simultaneously. Not only is it shown that the person is not a thing because it cannot be described as the same or different, but also because it cannot be described as impermanent, it is shown that it is not a thing. Therefore, it is mentioned, "The characteristic of existence is," etc. This itself is the characteristic of existence, and the nature of a thing is like this, for example, being able to perform a function. Because the characteristic of non-thingness is being separated from all functions, by implication, that which possesses the characteristic of being able to perform a function is established as a thing. That function is also determined only in moments, which is synonymous with "being pervaded by moments," because permanence contradicts functioning sequentially and simultaneously. Therefore, if the person cannot be described as momentary in this way, then it is not an existing thing, because its pervasion—momentariness—is contradictory, just as when the nature of a tree is contradictory, the nature of a sal tree is also contradictory. As it is said: "Whatever cannot be described as impermanent, it is not the cause of anything either." If someone thinks that if the person were permanent, then it would contradict functioning sequentially and simultaneously, why is it that what cannot be described as impermanent is also permanent? Therefore, if it is thought that this is not contradictory to ability in the ultimate sense, that is not correct. Because in this way, the own-characteristic of a thing that is separate from both aspects is a kind.
