A Difficult Commentary on the Compendium of Suchness By Kamalaśīla A Difficult Commentary on the Compendium of Suchness By Kamalaśīla In Sanskrit: Tattvasaṃgrahapañjikā In Tibetan: A Difficult Commentary on the Compendium of Suchness. Homage to the noble Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta! By the power of churning the ocean of knowledge, with compassion, you satisfy beings with the nectar of realizing suchness, pacifying the suffering of hell and so on for the sake of others. You are the supreme wisdom, the teacher of beings, I respectfully prostrate to you. I shall strive to compose a very clear commentary on this Compendium of Suchness. Those with foolish intellect like mine can never express something unprecedented. Even the wise have not examined this path many times each day, and there are some who have not. However, desiring to increase merit, with my own supreme wisdom, With the fruit of increasing virtue, I strive to do this through familiarity with suchness. For this treatise, for those who possess realization, one should first speak of what is to be expressed, and the entry that is preceded by the necessity, and having ascertained that great reverence for the great ones is the cause of obtaining all good things, for the purpose of generating devotion to the Bhagavan, and in order for the listeners to respectfully enter this treatise, preceded by the ritual of offering to one's own teacher. The verses beginning with "Whatever arises dependently..." up to "should be summarized" have shown what is to be expressed and the necessity of this treatise. Thus, if what is to be expressed in this is not shown, then it would be like the words of a madman, and it would be meaningless, and those with realization would not enter into listening, so what is to be expressed in this must be shown without fail. Similarly, even if there is something to be expressed, a treatise that is devoid of the desired necessity is like examining the teeth of a crow, and those with contemplation will not listen respectfully. Therefore, one should first speak of the necessity for the purpose of entering into it. The main branch of entry is necessity, because the listener enters the treatise by seeking that purpose.

Therefore. Also, because it cannot be accomplished by treatises that speak of emptiness. In order to show the necessity of the treatise, the subject matter is stated in order to explain the meaning of the means. That necessity is also because it should be shown as a means of conformity, it is not impossible to practice that accomplishment. If it is not like that, even if there is a necessity, it is like a jewel that can eliminate the fever of the crest of the head, the treatise on the secret of decoration, recognizing that it cannot accomplish that, those with discernment will not enter. Just for that reason. Relationship and conforming means, The meaning of the person is the subject matter, It is only the freedom of complete calculation, It is not the freedom of anything other than that. It is said like that. Therefore, in order to enter the treatise, the subject matter and so on are shown. However, the entry of those with discernment is from certainty, and certainty is also from valid cognition. Here, the words of necessity are not valid cognition for the meaning of external objects such as what is to be said, because there is no relationship with that and that. In this way, for the time being, there is no relationship of the nature of its own nature, because it is extremely different. There is also no relationship of the nature arising from that, because the words are only related to following desire. Because the words have no relationship, it is not reasonable to be a valid cognition when generating knowledge of the meaning that one wants to know, because it would be too extreme. Words are valid cognition for what one wants to say, but that is not a part of the entry of those with discernment, in this way, whatever those who want to say, it is not like that when accomplishing it, because even if one makes a vow, it is possible to make a treatise in another way with a deceptive mind. Furthermore, the necessity of the treatise, whatever is understood by other valid cognition, for that, placing the necessary words is meaningless, because that is only entered from other valid cognition. Whatever the necessity of the treatise, which is harmed by other valid cognition, for that it is also very clearly meaningless, because that is only harmed by other valid cognition, it is impossible to enter. After admitting these two
