Even if the object of focus is "I," why wouldn't it also apply to other "I"s? This kind of debate and examination is the same. If it is said that it is not so because the abilities are determined separately, then, since it is so, for us too, it is because the abilities are determined, so it only applies to some internal things, not all, and this establishment is completely without confusion. If one thinks that this establishment depends on this, but then wonders how the absence of an object of focus is established, then it is said, "The side of constant focus," etc. The meaning is, does this object of focus become permanent or impermanent? If permanent, then all pride, all pride will arise simultaneously, because there is no lack of causes. The cause is not the object of focus, because it is too extreme. The cause of ability is also not dependent on co-arising factors, and this has been examined more than once. It also cannot be said that this pride is the only one, because the very fact of being occasional establishes multiplicity. For example, in the state of deep sleep, drunkenness, and fainting, pride is not reasonable, but at other times it is reasonable, so it does not exist at all times, so it is established as occasional. The very fact of being occasional is also not a single entity. Therefore, all pride, as long as it exists, all existing things will arise simultaneously. If it is said that impermanence is the object of focus, then, like eye consciousness and so on, all pride will appear very clearly, because it directly grasps its own nature of things. Therefore, it is because of this. The so-called "other" refers to what is contemplated in the moment known by non-Buddhists such as Young Taker, etc. Debating and examining this object of focus is meaningless. Therefore, this pride is without an object of focus.

It is said, "Regarding the agent," and so on. Habit is suitable as the agent of recognition for the object of the knower, but not for what is not, that is, for what is not a knower. That is, the knower, that is, knowing, it is not suitable as the agent of the habit of recognition, it should be connected in this way. Why? Because this is not the cause of delusion, but this is how the cause of experience gives rise to knowledge in the very meaning of the object, it is not delusion. Therefore, this pride is not reasonable to be a delusion because it is produced by habit and because there is no means of harm. If "sound is harmless," etc., one should look at the end of this in order. It is a question raised by "not," and so on. The reason just stated is, "Regarding the aspect of the permanent object," etc., and "Any habit is not the cause of delusion," it is said, to show that it is uncertain. It is said, "Regarding Ishvara," etc. If habit is the cause of delusion, then how can the delusion that Ishvara has all births, knows all causes, and is the basis of constant wisdom, etc., arise from mere habit? Thus, even Kumārila only prevents Ishvara, etc., from being the agent of the world. "From the nature of mere habit," etc., the word "mere" is said to cut off the meaning of the object that has become such. Therefore, since pride has no object, therefore no knower to be grasped by it is established, therefore I am not established. Any "grasped by past pride," etc., is said to establish permanence. Therefore, "means of valid cognition," etc., are said. Any, since there is no knower, permanent or impermanent, as an example, therefore the example is not established. Thus, for the first and the made combination, it is the fault of the example of the non-establishment of the subject, because there is no knower to be understood by my knowledge now and yesterday. The same is true for the third combination.

As it is said, the establishment of the example and the establisher are incomplete. Because, the knower of the same continuum and related to the mind of what is manifestly desired, my knowledge is not established, or the object is not established. Therefore, by way of the non-establishment of the two dharmas, it is also shown that this is not established. How is the reasoning shown? To this question, what is shown is how those reasons previously stated are reasonable, that is, how the basis of existence is not established. Thus, in the first and second syllogisms, all three reasons are not established on the basis, because none of the knowers, the dharmas to be grasped by my knowledge, are established. For the third syllogism, although the knowers, the dharmas, are established, and therefore it is not established on the basis, nevertheless, for those dharmas, the distinction by the object itself of the knower who is not related to the same continuum is not established, because it has already been established that there is no object of focus. Therefore, it is said how it is reasonable. Thus, in the Difficult Explanation of the Condensed Truth, the eighth chapter is the examination of the self that is conceived by imputation, which is superior to examination. Now, in order to refute the self that is conceived by the Samkhyas, "others" and so on are mentioned. The so-called "others" are the Samkhyas. They consider that the self-nature of the sentient being is different from wisdom, thus, wisdom is the self-nature of the principal, and the sentient being is the self-nature of the purusha itself, which is their doctrine. That purusha is also the enjoyer of the fruits of good and non-good deeds led by the principal, but is not the agent of all deeds, because they consider that the nature of the all-pervading self is the agent itself. Here also the valid means are shown, whatever is a thing by the nature of accumulation is seen to accomplish the meaning of others, for example, the limbs of bedding and cushions and so on. Eyes and so on are also the nature of accumulation, which is the reason of nature. Whatever is other, that is also necessarily the implicit self, which is the thought of others. To this, also by "that" etc...
