If it is said that merely because it is an object of knowledge, it makes no other difference, then as it is said, because the difference is not established, the reason is not established, and because there is no pervasiveness, it is uncertain. Furthermore, mentioning "Whatever is a living body," etc., if mentioning "If together with me," etc., if life, etc., together with me, establishes some connection of its own nature, or of the nature arising from it, then, when "I" disappears, the life, etc., on the body should also disappear, which would be logical. If it is not so, if something without connection disappears, and other things also disappear, then it becomes no connection itself, because it would become too extreme. When the son of a widow disappears, the life, etc., which is not connected with him, does not disappear. Therefore, just as when the son of a widow disappears, the life, etc., which is not connected with him, also disappears, just like a pot, etc., some people establish the inference in this way, therefore it becomes uncertain, similarly, for you, when "I" disappears, the life, etc., should also disappear, which is uncertain. They think so because the connection is not established. Then, how is it that the connection is not established? Regarding this, for the time being, it is mentioned "Here, for the time being, it is not its owner," etc. Mentioning "Because they admit they are different," is because there is no connection of the nature of its own nature between "I" and life, etc., because they admit that their natures are different. For example, life, etc., are impermanent, non-pervasive, non-sentient, while "I" is the opposite of them. Nor is it a characteristic arising from it, because life, etc., would occur simultaneously due to the lack of all causes. Apart from these, there is no other connection. Therefore, for life, etc., which are separated from connection, why should this body, this body distinguished by being alive, disappear? It does not disappear at all. Therefore, they think that the reason is uncertain. This indicates that desire, hatred, effort, suffering, happiness, and knowledge, etc., are signs.

It should be observed to refute the statements of others, because the connection is not established. The reason is that things that are not related to each other cannot be the basis for knowing each other, such as sesame seeds and the migration of waterfowl. The statement that life and so on are not related to me is a failure to clearly identify what is universally applicable. The connection is not established because both types of connection have already been refuted above. This is also not uncertain, because that would lead to everything becoming the basis for knowing everything else. This is also not contradictory, because it exists on the conforming side. Someone says that because the action is established, the agent is not established, but this statement is also not established, because eyes and so on are not established as actions in the ultimate sense. Because all things are the same as causal entities in generating eye consciousness. The names of agent and action are merely fabricated according to one's own wishes. If one is merely trying to prove the existence of an agent, then one is repeating the proof of what is already established, because you want to posit the body and so on as agents. If you want to prove the agent in the ultimate sense, then it is uncertain, because the connection of eyes and so on as such agents is not established. Someone also says, "The first consciousness at the time of birth," and so on. To this, someone quotes, "Therefore, through all proofs," and so on, and gives the example, "Like the first consciousness, like my body." This metaphor contradicts the dharma to be proven as described above, because I am not established. Therefore, this reason is uncertain. Through the word "others," it is also clearly expressed that this is to respond to the doubts raised by the views of Sudatta and others. They say this: I am established through direct perception, because the consciousness of "I" arises without having to rely on the memory of the connection between the sign and the signified, just as the consciousness of form and so on is direct perception. This consciousness is not an object of form and so on, because it appears as something different from the consciousness of form and so on. Therefore, they think that only I am the object, but this is unreasonable, and so on.
