Because it possesses concomitance and contravention, it is definitely the cause. Just like this, only what exists will arise; whatever changes, that which changes is said to be its cause. Moreover, the seeds, etc., of lotus stamens, etc., which have become like that, having obtained the distinctions of states such as lotus roots, etc., possess concomitance and contravention. Because there is certainty regarding existence and non-existence, and those things that are not obvious cannot be ascertained, therefore this reason is not established. If someone says that the nature of cause and effect is confused, that is also not established. Because touch is also the cause of form, and it is also considered to be the real object of causation for eye consciousness. Just like this, touch is spoken of in relation to the elements, and it also relies on them to act on form. Therefore, eye consciousness possesses the real object of touch as its cause, it is merely a difference caused by directness and indirectness. We have not acknowledged that mere contravention is the cause that determines the real object of cause and effect. So what is it? It is having distinctiveness. Just like this, if other potent causes exist, they exist; if they do not exist, they will not arise, that is its cause. We say this, and not merely the contravention that what does not exist will not arise. If it is not like that, then the rice that grows in a place suitable for being taken as a bride, if it is not welcomed as a bride, it will not exist, then it will be confused. For such contravention, touch has no confusion. Just like this, if form, etc., are shown, and merely because there is no touch, eye consciousness will not arise, if it is shown like that, then there will be confusion. However, this also cannot be shown. Therefore, there is no confusion in the real object of the nature of cause and effect. Not only are real objects such as seeds, etc., definitely the cause, but it also shows that the separately determined place and time are also definite, that is, in "the determination of place and time," etc. If the separately determined place and time of lotus, etc., are not the cause, then, at that time, whatever abandons places such as stones, etc.

Just as water and the like each enter a definite place, and completely abandon seasons such as winter and enter seasons such as summer, this does not change. However, in all places and at all times, things such as lotuses will appear, because this is not dependent on other conditions. Therefore, if something abandons other places and times, and necessarily enters each definite place, etc., then it can be determined that this is dependent. What do these non-thinking things depend on? They depend on this, therefore they enter in this way. Thus it is said. Similarly, abandoning other places, etc., and entering definite places, etc., this itself is not the nature of thought called "dependence." If one thinks, relying on this to enter, although this is established, how can it be determined that this is its result? Dependence is called the result itself. Thus it is said. Its result itself has no other. Then what is it? Therefore, call it self-nature, or call it their self-nature, or summarize it as calling it self-nature. Whatever dependence is the characteristic of entering in this way, that itself is called its result. How is the existence of these views also established? Entering in this way is also directly perceived. Thus and so on it is said. Therefore, what is called "therefore" is "therefore," or for them, summarize it as calling lotuses and the like self-nature. Direct perception will greatly harm. Thus it is said, because non-appearance is also the self-nature of other appearances, so it is the self-nature of direct perception. Also, because in order to establish that happiness and the like are without cause, sometimes stating the proof of "contingency" and the like, this contradicts what is to be established, because it establishes the opposite of what is to be established, because being without dependence, being without cause is unreasonable, because it is contingency. It is also thought that the example is incomplete, because the point to be established is incomplete. In this way, after temporarily showing that the meaning of the commitment contradicts direct perception, and that the reason itself is not established, now because the reason is promised to be established, in order to show uncertainty, for the establishment of having a cause, thus it is said.

Etc. If one merely accepts non-perception as a reason, then it is uncertain. Thus, there is no valid cognition. The reason of merely no valid cognition does not ascertain that things are non-existent, i.e., not possessed. Why is it not? Because, as it is said, "Because of what," etc., if the distinguishing nature and cause change, then its pervaded and result will also change, because for it, the pervaded and results pervaded by its own nature and what arises from it are related. Valid cognition is also not the pervader of the existence of things. Why is it? Because, since different things exist, only non-different things are the pervader, like the tree of a sal tree. Because difference is included in the category of cause itself. Valid cognition and the existence of things are also not non-different, because appearances are different. Valid cognition is also not the cause of things, because it is illusion. Thus, things seized by place, time, and nature, even if valid cognition does not make them objects, there is no contradiction in their existence. That which arises even without something is also not logically its cause, because it would be too extreme. Even if one accepts it as a cause, one has abandoned one's own tenet. Because it arises from it, valid cognition is also not the cause of that thing's existence. Thus, valid cognition arises from the thing itself that has become an object, but the object to be measured does not arise from valid cognition. If, even without a relationship, valid cognition changes because of the existence of things, what is the difference? Whatever is a thing is not of such a nature, etc. To say that it is not of such a nature means that it is neither a cause nor a pervader. The change of a dharma without a relationship does not necessarily mean that another changes, because it would be too extreme. If that were the case, when a horse changes, a cow would also change. Furthermore, if one accepts non-perception as a reason, does one take the characteristic of the change of perception of all beings, or does one take the characteristic of the change of one's own perception? For the time being, the first is not the case, because one cannot be certain by merely seeing this shore, so one will doubt. Because all beings do not see the non-perception of the causes of peacock feathers, etc.
