Just like the two kinds of ear consciousness. The two kinds of eye consciousness and tactile consciousness also appear as different, which is called the object of pervasive contradiction. If they appear as different but are the same object, then the minds of form and sound, etc., should also become the same object, which is the measure of harm here. Well, if they are not the same object, then how is it that the vase that I see in the light is the same one that I touch in the dark? This will become the connecting consciousness. Therefore, this commitment is harmed by inference. To this, the inference spoken by the Illuminator is this: the knowledge of seeing and touching that has become the object is the same object, because it is connected, just like the knowledge of the blue lotus. To this, "The spoken words arise truly from power." and so on, that is to say, the power of the eye consciousness and tactile consciousness that only appear as color and touch, from which truly arises, having the nature related to conceptual thought, thus combining the words. Therefore, this shows that the connecting knowledge is not manifest, because it clings to many as one, so this is wrong, and it is related to conceptual thought. Other valid cognitions do not exist either, because it grasps the already grasped object that has been completely determined by the previous knowledge, and it is wrong. Therefore, because it is connected, this reason is uncertain. If the connecting knowledge is established as a valid cognition, then at that time the reason will necessarily be certain. To what extent, in order to show the common ability on form etc., an agreement was made on vases etc., and later for those experienced by eye and touch as they are, how does the memory consciousness of the nature of illusion arise by clinging to the one that is the difference of action, with an agreement that matches the seen object? Like this, clinging to that, the color of blue etc. will appear. Touch

For consciousness, the appearance of color is unreasonable, because that is the object of eye consciousness. Therefore, as the teacher said, the eye and touch, etc., in their own way, act together with the different objects they perceive, and from this arises the consciousness of memory, which has a common object and is no different from them, which is reasonable. If different universals are experienced, then this kind of memory belongs to: as long as you experience this, you will not want a universal different from form, etc. When experiencing form, etc., you will think it is form, etc., not a pot. Shouldn't what has not been experienced be remembered? So, how does this consciousness of memory with a common object arise? That is impossible, because it will not be said that it was previously experienced by a universal other than form, etc. However, what is shown is that the forms, etc., that can hold water, etc., are themselves the collection and the pot. What is said is that for those that are experienced separately by sensory consciousness, memory arises in that way, that is, the difference that is marked as a pot is remembered. Or, the universal is a distinction, because it is the nature of distinguishing consciousness, so it is experienced knowledge. Therefore, why is it unreasonable to remember it? Therefore, this reason—"because it has the shape difference of the self-created part"—is not established. Why? Because the dharma as previously stated is not established, the dharma taken by the two senses as previously stated is not established, because one aspect of the basis as the cause is not established, so the reason is not established. Therefore, in this way, it is shown that the possessor of difference, the difference, and the basis are not established, so the reason is not established in three ways. The fourth kind of non-establishment stated by the teacher is the statement of the difference in shape, etc. Even if those who become authors by seeing are not seen, what kind of difference in shape follows from understanding the cause of wisdom, such as temples, etc.?

Accompaniment and reversal, preceded by the actions of wise individuals, are established in the world. If something like that, such as bodies, trees, and mountains, is accepted as the subject to be proven, then what you wish to prove will be accomplished. The fruit that is highly distinguished by accompaniment and reversal is not mistaken about the cause, because that would lead to the fallacy of being without a cause. Such a distinction of shapes is not established in trees and so on; only the mere name of shape is established. Although phenomena are inherently different from each other, if they are taken as reasons without distinction merely by sound, then it is not possible to establish the manifestly desired object of proof, because even what is contrary to the object of proof exists without contradiction. For example, in the case of an anthill as the subject, if one were to establish that it was made by a potter, merely accepting the form of clay as the reason, that would be like the general meaning. The meaning of the limbs should also be stated: "Whoever sees, with wisdom, understands." This means that if a certain shape is seen, the cause of having wisdom is understood, and inference will occur. Regarding "body and mountain, etc.," body is body, mountain is mountain or tree, and the word "etc." includes the ocean, etc. How is it desired? It is preceded by those with wisdom. Establishment is establishment. How is it reasonable? Having mentioned accompaniment, etc., what is the fruit? It is smoke, etc. What is it? It is fire, etc. Seeing that means seeing the fruit of smoke, etc. Determining that means determining that it is fire, etc. If that is the case, then will it be the same for this as well? Having mentioned such a distinction of shapes, etc. Then, what is the common establishment of the sound of shape, will that become the reason? Even if one speaks well in that way, it is said that it is indistinguishable merely by sound. Potter
