The reason for saying "in order to prevent" etc., is that consciousness has no form, while the meaning of external objects has form. Like that, if it is said that the connection to the external object appears clearly, then the form that we know is prevented, because the form that exists in the inner and outer consciousness is non-existent, so even the sound that expresses it is not reasonable. Because of its non-existence, it is also unreasonable to exclude the inner meaning. The so-called "that" refers to sounds such as measurable. For sounds such as "anything like that", nothing that needs to be excluded is apparent, because the combination of some people is not the nature of negation. If someone thinks that "not like that" etc. will become the negation of the nature of negation, then this is not reasonable here, because if it is shown like this "for this also it is not like that", then it will prevent negation. If "like that" is not prevented, then it will exist by its own nature. This is the principle that was said before. All of this is quoted from the discussion of Kumārila. Now, "all sounds" etc. are to welcome the doubt of refuting the exclusion said by the light maker, he said that the meaning of the excluding sound is reasonable, because it is not special. Where there are two aggregates, understanding one by preventing one, such as in the sentence "not a cow", understanding a cow, then preventing not a cow. But in the word "all", this does not exist, because there is nothing that is not to be excluded by all sounds. If someone thinks that one etc. is not all, so it will be excluded by the word "all", that is not right, because that would commit the fault of slandering one's own meaning. If so, when the word "all" is used to exclude one etc., because the limbs are prevented, and it is not admitted that the limbs and the possessor of limbs are non-different, it will become meaningless. The sound of the limbs expresses one aspect. In that case, apart from the collection, other collections are not admitted, so

If one enters by way of negating the nature of 'one,' then all sounds of aggregation will become meaningless. Because sounds such as 'two' are also objects of aggregation. Since the meaning of 'one' and so on is negated, thereby negating the meaning of aggregation, it is inherently meaningless. To illustrate this, it is said, 'The appearance will not change in that way,' meaning that those objects of aggregation that desire to be of a certain appearance will not become that appearance. Furthermore, if one says that the meaning of the sound of 'cow' is not cow, then is this exclusion of 'not cow' a real entity or a non-entity? If it is a real entity, then what is it, is it a cow or something that is not a cow? If it is a cow, then it is a dispute over names. If one says that the meaning of the sound of 'cow' is not cow, then one is extremely skilled in the meaning of sounds. If it is a non-entity, then it is unreasonable, because it is not an object of stimulation and correct understanding. For a non-entity, hearing a sound will not produce stimulation and understanding. To illustrate this, it is said, 'This non-existence is also unreasonable,' and so on. Because of stimulation, it is stimulation, that is, the speaker connects the listener with the meaning. This is also the dharma of the speaker, while correct understanding is the dharma of the listener. The sound of 'etc.' includes all the dharmas of real entities such as milking and boiling. Furthermore, the meaning of sound is understood through knowledge, and from the sound of 'cow,' one cannot understand anything that does not exist. Furthermore, exclusion is the nature of action, therefore it must be expressed as an object. Regarding this, this exclusion of 'not non-cow,' for the object of cow, is also not the object of non-cow. If cow is the object, then how can cow become without cow? If it is not cow, then how can exclusion exclude other objects? Just as when cutting sandalwood, one will not cut the flesh of the wood. If one says 'cow is not non-cow,' thereby negating non-cow on cow, then what should be negated, and through what should one determine that it is not cow? Therefore, considering that these two initial discriminations have no close connection, in order to show the third, it is said 'why' and so on.
