No. It is not the case that all sounds have been designated for all things in reality, which means that pervasiveness is not evident, because designation itself pervades expression, and that does not exist here. In order to show that this reason is also not unestablished, it is said, "Because of what?" and so on. For example, when establishing the designated object as the meaning of sound, sometimes one examines its own characteristic, that is, the uncommon, or the genus, or its relation, that is, related to that genus, or an object possessing that genus, or a certain aspect of mind. Because it is impossible to designate everything, it should not be considered the meaning of sound. By the phrase "in that itself," it is shown that the conventional meaning of sound is not negated, therefore it will not contradict one's own words. If it were not so, then the proponent would contradict his own words. For example, after sound indicates its own characteristics and so on, it cannot be shown that these are not the meaning of sound, and if one wants to show this, sound indicates its own characteristics and so on, then it would be admitted that these are the meaning of sound, and again, because of negating the same proposition, it would contradict one's own words. This clarifies what the objector said: If sounds are not expressers, then the proposition and reason are contradictory. We would never in any way slander the meaning of sound, because it is very famous even among cowherds. However, we negate the other's imputation upon it, that is, the dharma that exists in itself, not the subject of dharma. In order to temporarily show that its own characteristic has not been designated, in order to show that it is not the meaning of sound, therefore it is said, "in that itself" and so on. Temporarily, sounds, do not express their own characteristics, this is because it is thought that it has not been designated for it. If it has not been designated, then how is it? It is said, "designation" and so on, that is, what has been completed in designation and terminology, that is, the time of attainment, pervades this, because it is separated from the cause of pervasiveness, therefore its own characteristic has not been designated, this is the remainder. This shows that designation is ter

It is not done with attachment to the meaning of names. Therefore, when something becomes a unique symbol and name, universality is necessarily present, and only those who name that thing are suitable as symbols, otherwise they are not. However, the self-nature of oneself is not universally present when it becomes a symbol and name, therefore, it is not a symbol. And why does the self-nature of oneself not possess universality when it becomes a symbol and name? Because places, times, etc. are mentioned. Because places and so on are different, and the appearances such as spots are different, these extremely different things do not follow each other, therefore, a person who gives a symbol to one will not name another. The term "appearances, etc." covers colors, shapes, and moments, etc. The so-called "unseen name" means that because this thing has no symbol, it is thought that it is not an unestablished reason. In order to show that it is not uncertain, "unseized symbol" and so on are mentioned. Whoever has grasped the symbol is called this, and whoever has not grasped the symbol is the one who has not grasped the symbol. The so-called "from sound" means from name. The so-called "other" is like the meaning of different kinds. It is explained here that if the sound shows the meaning of not grasping the symbol, then at that time the sound of the cow will also become the one who shows the symbol, and the function of the symbol will become meaningless. Therefore, since over-inference is a damaging measure, pervasion is established. Acharya Dignāga explained the reason for not giving symbols, etc. with the words "Sound is different, never spoken, because it is boundless." In this way, the word "because it is boundless" explains the non-symbolic nature. Therefore, the light maker said: If sound is taken as the subject, then at that time the word "because it is boundless" is a reason for different bases because it is the dharma of things. Or, if the differences themselves are taken as the subject, then at that time, since there are no examples of similar and dissimilar, boundlessness is not a reason.
