Thus it is established. Furthermore, since this "having" should be understood as the difference between things, it is manifestly established from that "having" itself that it is another dharma. For example, when someone says, "Bring the object that has such and such," what is to be taken is only the "having" of those specified objects, and not just the object itself. Otherwise, anything could be taken. All of these should be applied in reverse to establish distinctions as well. Furthermore, if this "having" and "distinction" are not different dharmas from this thing, then, without difference, how could different thoughts such as "this thing is without interval, and this thing is with interval" arise reasonably? Because without the difference of things, differential cognition cannot arise, otherwise, everything would exist at all times, which would lead to an absurd conclusion. Furthermore, even when stones and sandalwood, etc., are located very far away, the definite thought of "without interval" arises for a person located far away; and when waterfowl, etc., are attached to a thin treetop, even though they are almost without interval from the thin treetop, the definite thought of "with interval" arises repeatedly. Both of these cases are false cognitions because they operate on that which is not it with such a nature. False cognition does not arise anywhere without experiencing the real thing, just as without experiencing a cow, one would not mistake something that looks like a cow for a cow. Therefore, it is necessary to state that the reason for this erroneous cognition is some real thing. If that is stated, then "having" and "distinction" are established. Apart from these, it is not possible to establish another reason for this cognition. Furthermore, when the thought "Devadatta has earrings" arises, it must be stated what causes this thought to arise. It is not appropriate for just the appearance of a person and earrings to cause this, because that would lead to Devadatta and earrings being everywhere. Furthermore, merely the fact that something is perceived as existing in something else is itself the way to establish or negate other things.
