These are the terms such as "the arising of designation." The specific designation is the designation of front and back for the meanings arising from front and back, etc. The attention arising from that is effort. That which exists as a reason for this is called that. Therefore, there is no fault of mutual dependence, because this knowledge is the reason for the designation of specific things. Therefore, if only the cause is established, it is establishing what is already established. If the particular is established, it is harmed by inference, and there is no concomitance, as shown before. And the reason is contradictory because it establishes the opposite of what is desired, as shown by "indivisible single thing," etc. Those are time and direction. The knowledge of front and back, etc., considers time and direction as a single indivisible thing with a reason. That is not established, because it is the object that generates knowledge that follows its own form, that is, what is done by the parts of front and back, etc., for the indivisible consciousness, there are also distinctions of front and back, etc. Therefore, because it establishes the opposite of what is desired, the reason is contradictory. If this, called "related and different," causes others to have doubts. If the internal and external things related to direction and time, such as fire, lamp, and body, etc., have front and back, etc. Then, these times and directions also belong to the related, which shows the front and back, etc. Therefore, the reason is not contradictory, so it is thought. Here is the answer: If that is the case, are those not meaningless? That is to say, if you think that way, those times and directions will become meaningless, because what is to be established, the result of the manifest desire, has already been established by that related thing itself. Thus, time is: the cause of the arising of knowledge of before, after, instant, moment, blink, end, part, a while, day and night, half month, month, etc. Direction is also east and west, etc.

It is considered the cause of establishment. Since all these differences exist in their own nature and also exist in the differences, it is meaningless to think that they also exist in the differences. The reason for proving the mind, if only proving the general cause, is proving what has already been established, which shows: things different from the eye, etc. In particular, if proving the permanent and single mind, then there is no concomitance, and the commitment is harmed by inference, and the reason is also contradictory, which shows: if the mind is permanent, etc. Saying that it will cause harm to what is desired, is because it is proving that the impermanent cause different from the eye, etc., is dependent. If it is not so, if the cause is permanent, then because the cause is incomplete, the sequential arising of knowledge will be contradictory. In order to show in advance that the contradictory reason itself is ridiculed, therefore "Sugata" etc. are said. In order for the mind desired by the Sugatas and heretics to be established or not established, this sutra is made, that is, "the non-simultaneous arising of knowledge is not a sign of mind," thinking that it is to say the word of refutation for one side, this is the general meaning. Explaining the meaning of the limbs, the Sugata and the outsiders, that is, what the heretics say are also those, and the mind is also, thus connecting the words. Those are established or not established in order, or truly established, or simultaneously established, therefore, because of that reason. Then, how can one sutra understand two contradictory meanings? "With refutation" etc. are said, meaning that entering together with refutation, in order to make the mind of others not established, saying "not a sign" and showing the word of refutation, in order to make the mind of the Sugata established, it means that there is no refutation in other aspects. Or, how can one word establish both with refutation and without refutation? "By repetition" etc. are said, meaning that this is in the way of repetition.
