Now, it is said in the sutra that slowness, quickness, simultaneity, non-simultaneity, long duration, and speed are the signs of time. The impermanence, oneness, and other qualities here should be understood like space. To establish direction, it is said in the sutra, "From thoughts such as east and west," from the perspective of sentient beings, only for sentient beings, from this is east, south, west, north, southeast, southwest, northwest, northeast, below, above, and so on. What arises from these ten kinds of knowledge is called direction. As it is said in the sutra, "What is thought to be 'this,' from where it comes, that is the sign of direction." From where it comes refers to specific knowledge, and specific knowledge does not arise suddenly. It is also not mutually dependent on sentient beings, because mutual dependence would lead to the absence of both. Because there is no other reason, these signs are the signs of direction. The oneness, permanence, universality, and other qualities of that direction should be understood at other times. Even if direction is singular, it is diverse due to the differences in results, due to the differences in east and so on. The argument is: Whatever this knowledge of east and west, etc., is, it has a cause of entities different from sentient beings, because it is different from that knowledge, just like the knowledge of happiness, etc. Explanation of the signs of mind. It is said, "Knowledge arises gradually," etc., even if the senses and objects do not meet and exist simultaneously, because it is seen that knowledge arises gradually. From proximity and non-proximity, knowledge arises and does not arise, there is another cause other than the senses and objects. Therefore, when knowledge arises gradually, that is, when knowledge arises, it is inferred by mind. As it is said in the sutra, "Knowledge does not arise simultaneously, this is the sign of mind." The argument is: Whatever this cognition of form, etc., is, it depends on a cause different from the eye, etc., because it is gradual.

Therefore, it arises, just like a chariot and so on. The answer is given by "already grasped, etc." and so on. If it is only to prove that these sounds are generally dependent, then at that time, the reason becomes proof of what has already been established. Just like this, sounds are considered to be the cause of the great elements that are already grasped and not grasped, and these great elements also depend only on their results, that is, for these, it means that since the nature associated with already grasped, etc. has been obtained, the results depend on the causes. Already grasped means possessed by mind and mental factors. The sound of "etc." includes the cause of the great elements that are not grasped. For these, it means for the great elements such as already grasped, etc. Therefore, it means that because of this reason. Previously, it means that what was previously said, such as "sounds depend on certain things," etc., is not a valid proof because there is the fault of proving what has already been established. That is what was thought. If one wants to prove that these depend on the combination of special, non-sentient, permanent, unique, pervasive matter, then at that time, what is to be proven, because there is no accompanying example. Therefore, the reason is uncertain. To illustrate this, it is "space is the only one," and so on. These are related to the previous "whether it is accomplished or not." To illustrate that the proposition also contradicts inference, it is "similarly, order, etc. are obtained." These are related to the fact that the combination with space as previously stated cannot be established. If these combine with the permanent, unique space matter, then, just like the many sounds that arise simultaneously, those sounds that are not combinations will also only appear when one wants to manifest them, because there is no incompleteness of causes, and the basis is unique. This permanence does not depend on others, and this has already been explained. Not being a benefactor, it should also not be a combination, because it would be too extreme. Therefore, it would become non-sequential. The sound of "etc." includes birth
