"Not Desired": This refers to those who previously possess consciousness and other qualities that lack inherent existence, which are considered as a different category. Why? Because it is said that the six meanings of words—substance, quality, action, generality, particularity, and inherence—are supreme meanings and exist as substances. The followers of the Logicians are the Logicians, who are the intelligent ones. The Vaiseṣikas are the disciples of Kaṇāda, known as the Kaṇādas. Merely scriptures, etc., mean that these people lack reason and only have scriptures, so they only possess scriptures. Among them, for the moment, earth, etc. And so on. For the moment, in order to refute the meaning of the word 'substance,' its forms and distinctions are explained, thinking that if they can be clearly distinguished, it can be easily refuted. The so-called nine forms are: the sutras say that earth, water, fire, wind, space, time, direction, self, and mind are all substances. Among them, the four substances of earth, water, fire, and wind are divided into two forms by the difference between permanence and impermanence. In order to show these two forms here, it is said, 'For the moment, which ones,' etc. The nature of earth and other atoms is permanent, because the atoms themselves are permanent. What is created by them is impermanent, because what has a cause is impermanent, which is reasonable. The so-called 'them' refers to atoms, etc., those atoms that exist in what place, the second, etc., where two atoms are combined, those are 'them.' Space, etc., are thought to be constant and unchanging. For the moment, wanting to refute the number of these four substances here, so it is said, 'Among them,' etc. Among these, etc., whatever says that atoms are of a permanent nature, for those, because the momentary destruction that pervades all things has been established, it has been established that there is no permanent nature. Whatever exists is all momentary, because what is not momentary, sequential and simultaneous actions are contradictory. Therefore, the existence itself with that characteristic disappears, and pervasiveness has been established.
