Although it is a matter of cause and effect, since it is not contradictory to everything, there is no deficiency whatsoever. If you doubt, saying that if there is no self, then the determination of cause and effect is not reasonable, it is mentioned that "sprouts and so on have seeds and so on." Just as there is no self of the blesser, but seeds and so on have a definite ability for sprouts and so on, so too will there be changes for inner things. Seeds and so on are not blessed by the self of the basis of enjoyment like the body, if it is not so, then this living body is not without self, because it will become not having life and so on, which is unreasonable. If pots and so on have a self, then how will this reason become inverted at that time? "When the following self is separated," means even if it is separated from some nature that follows. Or, what is this dwelling place? Mentioning "things or" and so on, just as the establishment of external cause and effect is definite, so too for the inner aggregate of formations, because the power of the cause is definite, from some good and non-virtuous actions, after the passing of a moment, the desired and undesired definite result will appear clearly. From experiencing form and so on to remembrance, from doubt to determination, from entrusting to receiving, from wanting to seeing meaning, and from that to feeling separation and so on, all of this is not contradictory. For Buddhists, it is not proclaimed anywhere that remembrance and so on are due to one thing following. So what is it? It is only this dependent arising. It is said that karma exists, fruit exists, and apart from being nominally designated as Dharma, the agent who abandons this aggregate and takes another aggregate is not seen. In this regard, nominal designation as Dharma is like this: when this exists, that arises; when this is born, that is born. Therefore, the word "etc." in "karma, fruit, etc." includes remembrance and so on.

The relation is that which is to be produced and that which produces. Now, if that is the case, how is it said in the world and in the treatises that the actions done by a certain person will be experienced by whom? (Answer:) It is said, "agent, etc." etc. Because the darkness of ignorance is extremely strong, causing the light of wisdom to disappear, worldly people abandon the distinctions of "I and other exist," etc., and determine the essence of special causes and effects as a single continuous stream, and determine "this is this" and "I do," etc., and make designations. For the sake of liberation, and also to prevent those who are immersed in pride from falling into nihilistic views, the Tathagata teaches them the single cause, thereby establishing the agent, etc. If things can be established from such an establishment, then, itself is not a limb of the place. (Answer:) Thus it is said. Because childish people turn their backs on the examination of suchness, they cannot establish suchness due to their attachment to conventionality. Because their attachment is harmed by the measure that establishes the momentary destruction of selflessness. Because seeds, etc., have the nature of following, and separation is not established. When one thinks that the example is not established and suspects others' accusations, it is said, "There is no following," etc. Following is following along. The so-called "some nature" is the remainder. Some people think that seeds, etc., also certainly have following, because childish people also think that any part of the seeds, etc., will abandon the previous arrangement completely and obtain another arrangement. After obtaining another arrangement, the boundary of earth is occupied by the boundary of water, and when it is ripened by the internal fire, it will accomplish the substance of taste. Together with the previous parts that have taste, it will accomplish things such as sprouts. Therefore, how can it be said that it does not even have tiny parts? If you think so, then, when fields, etc., have no difference.
