Because the wisdom that does not cling to distinctions does not engage in objects that need to be distinguished, this is said according to such reasoning. In this way, the object is what needs to be distinguished, and consciousness is the distinction; the object that has been cognized is what has been distinguished by consciousness. If consciousness is not cognized as being of the nature of self-awareness, then it is cognized as being like the object distinguished by consciousness; just as it is unreasonable to hold a stick-holder without holding the stick. What was said by the three-eyed one, that even without holding the eye, one can understand the object to be known by the eye, just as even without the discriminating consciousness, it is reasonable to know the object, is not good, because it is inappropriate. Because the eye is not a distinction of form, then what is it? It is eye consciousness. Therefore, if the discriminating consciousness is not correctly aware, how can it know form? In this way, the argument has not subsided. Furthermore, in order to establish that consciousness is hidden, Bhaṭṭa said, just as form and so on are manifest, and it is impossible to establish the senses in another way, so too can consciousness be established. Similarly, his statement is: If some objects are not cognized, then wisdom has no object; if they are cognized, then they are cognized from inference. His explanation is also: Consciousness is by the power of what has already been cognized. What has already been cognized is also said to be the manifestation of the object. This is very unreasonable, if the manifestation of the object is different from consciousness, if it is the nature of the object, then the manifestation is the nature of matter, because for matter, it is impossible to be very manifest. If the object is different from the object, then from itself, it is impossible to be very manifest. If manifestation is manifested by another manifestation, then it will become endless. If manifestation is the nature of consciousness, then manifestation itself will become hidden. Therefore, it must be said without a doubt that consciousness is self-aware. Self-awareness is also established through experience, so how can it be denied? It is said: If the object is not directly perceived, then seeing the object cannot be established. The Adornment Maker also said: If consciousness is hidden, from where does the name of consciousness come? Having become hidden

Whose ability can portray its own essence? So it is said. Then, if the self-awareness of all knowledge is directly perceived, how could it not be the case that the cognition of "this is a pot" and so on becomes without cognition, and the cognition of yellow conch and so on becomes non-erroneous? It should be said that the discriminating knowledge is only without discrimination towards its own nature. This cognition of "this is a pot" only cognizes external objects, but not its own nature. It is said: Whatever knowledge grasps sound and meaning, that is discrimination towards it. One's own essence is not sound and meaning, therefore, everything is directly perceived in relation to it. So it is said. Error is also non-erroneous towards its own nature, because it appears by the very nature of self-clarity. It is said to be error only because there is no object. As it is said: Towards one's own essence, there is no error; towards the essence of others, it is inverted. So it is said. Therefore, it is not established that it is completely clear in others. If these can make it completely clear, then it should be admitted that those born from one's own cause as the nature of complete clarity can make it completely clear. The knowledge of a yogi born from the ultimate perfection of meditating on the true meaning is also directly perceived. Yoga refers to meditative absorption (ting nge 'dzin,梵文:samādhi,梵文天城体:समाधि,梵文罗马拟音:samādhi,汉语字面意思:三摩地) and wisdom. Meditative absorption is characterized by the mind being one-pointed. Wisdom is the discernment of the suchness of all phenomena. Because one possesses this yoga, one is called a yogi. Whatever is the knowledge of a yogi is directly perceived. What is it like? It is born from the ultimate perfection of meditating on the true meaning. The true meaning is the meaning established by valid cognition. Meditation is the repeated and genuine creation from the mind. The knowledge that is born from the ultimate perfection of meditating on the true meaning is free from discrimination and non-erroneous. The true meaning refers to the four noble truths, namely suffering, origin, cessation, and path. One should realize that the nature of the five aggregates is momentary, empty, selfless, and the nature of suffering and so on, that is, following the principle that "whatever exists is momentary" and so on.
