This is what is seen. Since it has been clarified that the consciousness of young children, etc., is indeed conceptualization, and it has been proven that the eye consciousness, as stated by Bhaṭṭa, is indeed accompanied by conceptualization, then why would the consciousness of the nature of understanding and delusion be considered non-perception? It is not so, because the consciousness that can manifestly reveal the nature of things is known to all as perception. However, understanding and delusion are not capable of manifesting the self-nature of things. Therefore, the consciousness that apprehends things is the result of things, and things are also the object to be grasped, therefore it is the cause of consciousness. As it is said: The aspect of consciousness is only the cause that can establish. The object to be grasped is known by consciousness. Thus. Conceptual consciousness, since it arises only from habit without any object, how can it become the result of things? Because it does not have the characteristics of following and contradicting things. Whatever arises without something is not the result of that thing, otherwise it would be too broad. If conceptual consciousness arises close to things, then it should also be able to see things like vases. Therefore, it would be deduced that even the blind can see form, which is impossible. Therefore, it is said: The wisdom arising from sound does not manifest things like perception, therefore conceptual consciousness does not have the ability to manifest things. This refutes what the opponent said: Besides following sound, what else does not exist in the world? All knowledge only appears to accompany sound. Thus. When the vase in front is being spoken of, the knowledge of the ground, etc., near it is experienced without words. Therefore, there is no following of sound at that time. It can be known from the reasoning that "conceptualization itself does not exist simultaneously." Delusional consciousness also cannot manifest things, because delusional consciousness describes the things that can realize the function of things in a reversed way. And the things that can realize the function of things are the nature of the things themselves, which are definite in place, time, and form, and their reversal

How does the deluded knowledge that appears somewhere manifest? What did the teacher say? Through illusions such as dazzlement, rapid spinning, and being on a boat, the knowledge that does not generate illusion is direct perception. This explains that for a person with cataracts, the knowledge of seeing a white conch as yellow, and when spinning a torch, the knowledge of seeing it as a wheel, and on a moving boat, the knowledge of perceiving trees as swaying, and when a vital point of the body is struck by an arrow, the knowledge of seeing it as burning, these are not direct perception. So, if this knowledge is not direct perception, how is an object obtained from it? An object is not obtained from it, so what is it? Some say it is obtained from other knowledge. That is of four types: sense consciousness, mind, and the knowledge of self-aware yogis. Relying on the senses such as the eye, and focusing on the five external objects such as form, this is sense direct perception. Among them, the object of eye consciousness is form. The object of ear consciousness is sound. The object of nose consciousness is smell. The object of tongue consciousness is taste. The object of body consciousness is touch. The reason for calling it sense direct perception is that it is a non-common cause, like the sound of a drum and a barley sprout. This direct perception, for whomever it generates a conceptual thought that agrees with itself and subsequently, for him it is a valid cognition, because this is from the perspective of nominal valid cognition. The immediately preceding object of one's own object, the sense consciousness that acts together with the object, generated by the similar immediately preceding cause, that is mind consciousness. One's own sound refers to sense consciousness, and one's own object refers to external objects such as a vase. The immediately preceding of one's own object refers to the immediately preceding of one's own object, which is the second moment of the vase etc. other than the object of sense consciousness. Gathering with that which acts together, closely taking, that which is similar to sense consciousness, generated by that immediately preceding cause, that which has a name, that is mind direct perception.
