Because of the establishment, the reason of self-nature is unreasonable. There is no other reason either. You also need to make the probandum pervade with other reasons, but that also, because it is not established in all aspects, how can the pervasiveness of the reason be determined? Furthermore, is this self the nature of cognition or the nature of non-cognition? If it is the nature of cognition and is permanent, then the fault of the eyes, etc., being separated from the result will be difficult to avoid. However, if the nature of cognition is impermanent, then there is no inconsistency in merely calling consciousness 'self'. If it is not the nature of cognition, but can be observed, then because it is invisible, the very existence of this is intolerable, and establishing no-self is unsurpassed. Therefore, all conditioned phenomena are without self. Because one's own nature is not established, it will also become an appearance of an unestablished reason, such as sound is impermanent because it is visible to the eye. Then, is not the unestablished pervasiveness also a refutation? That is also because the meaning desired by the opponent cannot be established. Why not say that? Because merely refuting the uncertain itself has the meaning of cognition, so it is not said separately. In this way, one cannot grasp the pervasiveness with one's own characteristics, because one's own characteristics are determined by place, time, and form, so there is no following in other places. However, pervasiveness should only be grasped by the commonalities of what is to be established and what establishes. Regarding that, if the establishing is not recognized as pervaded by what is to be established, then the establishing will also change, but what is to be established does not change, so it is merely uncertain. Then, do you not have the unestablished? How can one use valid cognition to grasp the pervasiveness that completely includes everything from the commonalities of what is to be established and what establishes? This is not a fault, because whatever is fully examined by other commonalities, the valid cognition similar to that will harm, so the Sugatas do not accept it, but it is a characteristic that contradicts the commonalities famous in terminology.

The name "excluding from others" is not so. Then, what is this "exclusion"? Just as it is adhered to, external objects such as vases should be clearly referred to as "exclusion," because other dissimilar kinds are to be excluded from this. Just as the appearance of the mind is also exclusion, because the appearance of the mind here excludes dissimilar things, making them different. The very nature of suchness, the nature of negation without the slightest reversal, is exclusion; exclusion itself is exclusion. Then, just as it is adhered to, it is only establishment. If that is the case, does it become merely exclusion? It is not so, establishment is considered to be the pervading place of exclusion. When a cow is understood, "not a cow, not a cow," through implication, exclusion must be determined later, which is the view of the proponents of establishment. Furthermore, when exclusion is understood, also through implication, the exclusion of things such as cows is understood, which is the view of the proponents of reverse exclusion. This is unreasonable, because at the time of naming, the order of each entering first is not seen. After understanding establishment, some understand exclusion later through meaning, or after understanding exclusion, understand establishment later, which is not the case. Therefore, merely understanding a cow is said to be understanding exclusion from others. If the sound of a cow is repeatedly spoken without touching the sound of exclusion from others, even then, it is merely not understanding the exclusion that transforms into difference, because the sound of a cow is named for the object that excludes non-cows. For example, when a blue lotus is understood from the sound of "Indivarā," which is named for a blue lotus, at that time, the increase of the blue quality is irreversible. Similarly, when a cow is understood from the sound of a cow, which is named for the object that excludes non-cows, at the same moment, because it is the difference of exclusion, the increase of exclusion is irreversible. Just as without direct perception, clinging to the nature of non-negation, it is only capable of generating the conceptual thought of non-existence, similarly, the conceptual thoughts of establishment also conform to this, producing subsequent establishment.
