That is because the pervasion is established. For example, if one admits that the general includes many, then one would fall into the trap of the general being many. Thus, whatever includes many is many, like the fruits of the palm tree that are placed in many containers. The general also includes many. Therefore, it would also follow that the general should also become many. If one does not want to become many, then one should not admit including many. If that is the case, if the word "falling into" cannot become a valid means of establishment, then how can it be properly used? It is like stating one aspect of pervasion in order to remember the pervasion. As it is said: Because falling into and the two are related, if one does not exist, it is to negate the other. The meaning of this is that if the pervader and the pervaded are related, if one does not want to admit the pervader, then one should not admit the pervaded. If one wants to admit the pervaded, then one should admit the pervader. When the proponent properly states the reason for establishment, the opponent should refute it, which is reasonable. Stating any one of the unestablished, contradictory, and uncertain is refutation. As it is said: Stating incomplete etc. is refutation. If merely stating these is refutation, then what do meaningless, powerless, and excessive etc. include? These three are all included in these three. Among them, meaningless is included in the unestablished, because the argument is said to be doubtful about the dharma to be proven. Wherever meaninglessness is stated, it is said that the characteristic of the argument, that is, being doubtful about the dharma to be proven, is impossible in the argument, which is stating the unestablished. As it is said: Because the argument is stated to the doubter, excluding is not the basis of the argument. Powerlessness is included in the unestablished nature, because power is not something different from the nature of the argument, because it would fall into the argument not being real. Excessiveness is included in the uncertain, because it exceeds what is to be proven,

It is because it is too extreme in the direction of agreement. If one wants to establish something for a subject, then if that subject, which one wants to manifestly establish, is contradicted by valid cognition, then the basis is not established, and it is a fault of the reason. For example, the self is all-pervasive, because virtues are directly perceived everywhere. If the self is not established here in enlightenment, what need is there to say that the very quality of being perceived in all directions is established here? Thus, the non-Buddhists necessarily say this: other than the body and other things, there is a separate substance called "self," which is permanent and pervasive, and which is the agent of virtue and non-virtue, and the enjoyer of its fruits. Although it pervades everything, nevertheless, it refers to the very living body that is fully grasped as the source of enjoyment as being with the self. But that is not reasonable, because there is no valid cognition to prove the self. Manifest cognition does not realize the self, because the objects of the consciousnesses of the eye and so forth are necessarily the five objects of form and so forth. The arising from mind, the realization of "I," is also because the body and so forth are objects. Thus, the realization of "I" arises in the form of "I am heavy," "I am fat," "I am going," and so forth. The Ornament Maker said, "Whatever knowledge is called 'I' is the body, the senses, the parts, and the agent. I am subtle, happy, and heavy, because the similar basis is the agent." For this other than the body, its nature of being heavy or fat does not exist. For the pervasive, non-material self, following the substance of the body and the action of going is also not reasonable. This is not reasonable to be designated like a lion's name for a Brahmin boy, because it leads to confusion in the meaning. Inference is also not realized, because there is no reason of effect and nature. Because it is permanent and hidden, therefore, with the self that is separated from place, time, and aspect, even something that goes along with it or is the nature of reversing, the objects of the effect and cause are not established. Therefore, the sign of the effect is not reasonable. Existing on the subject itself is also not
