Therefore, it is the agent of attainment of what is to be attained. Therefore, conceptual thought that possesses the function of direct perception and inference is done by direct perception and inference. Here, the truth is this: conceptual thought is not the indicator of the object that the function of valid cognition enters, but it is the one who applies terms. The indicator who applies terms through the door of the indicator is either direct perception or inference, that is it, and not another. The object to be measured is the blueness of blue, etc., whatever part that has been made distinct, that is the truth. Others, such as moments that have not been made distinct, are not, because what has not been termed, even if it exists, is no different from non-existence. Thus, direct perception and inference are the attachment of the limb of attainment, because they are the display of what is attained, therefore they are valid cognition. If it is said, is it not said that what is capable of attaining the meaning is valid cognition? Yes, that meaning is like attaining the complete display, but not only that, and the attainment of what is attained by valid cognition is also the ability to attain. Therefore, the sound of displaying what is attained is what makes the ability to attain clear. By the nature of the attachment of the limb of attainment, knowledge is able to attain, but otherwise it is not. Therefore, the very nature of the attachment of the limb of attainment is the ability to attain the meaning, therefore, the term ability indicates the meaning of the attachment of the limb of attainment, and not another. Whatever does not arise without meaning, therefore it is called valid cognition, that meaning is this: the meaning of knowledge is the result of the meaning of the attachment of the limb of attainment, because it is not the result of meaning, therefore there is no attachment of the limb of attainment. If it is said, how is it that knowledge other than these is not an attainer? Listen, whatever is able to attain the object is the limb of attainment, and others are not able to attain. For the time being, mistaken knowledge is not able to display what is attained, because there is no object, therefore it is not able to attain. Even if it is an object, it becomes mistaken knowledge.

It is reasonable. Doubt is also to judge things that are uncertain about existence or non-existence. Uncertainty is not existence. Things are determined to exist, or not not to exist, but existence and non-existence are uncertain. Therefore, doubt is not a means of attainment. If someone says with certainty that there is water in the pit, this is not the manifestation of the nature of things, nor is it the reason for seeing that water will not appear if there is no water, so it has no ability to determine, so this is doubt. Because I have not realized that I have not seen the nature of things or things related to it. Even if things or associations are not seen, any certainty in the presence of partial possibilities is an uncertain certainty, so it is only doubt. When a swarm of mosquitoes is mistaken for smoke from a distance, then, without knowing the certainty of the nature of smoke, one will not certainly recognize the nature of smoke. Since the smoke of uncertain nature precedes ignorance, it is doubt, so it is not a means of attainment. Inference is a means of attainment because it sees related things and thus determines the existence or non-existence of things. Direct perception is also a means of attainment because it determines the nature of manifestation. If someone says that we have doubts about direct perception, this is true, because there will be doubts about the things that appear in direct perception: is this true, or is it not true? But one will not doubt: does this appear or not appear? Because there, manifestation is determined as fire, so direct perception is not an object to enter. Later, doubting the object of true meaning does not harm the function of direct perception. The function of direct perception is to examine the determined manifestation, and this is also done by direct perception, so what does doubt do to it? Manifestation is not to determine whether things appear or not, so will conceptual thought depend on the object of doubt? Uncertainty is not the meaning of direct perception. Certainty is the meaning of conceptual thought, and manifestation is the meaning of direct perception. In the Bṛhattīkā, according to the meaning of direct perception, distinctions are made according to the freedom of manifestation.
