are seen, such as water and fire, and so on. That nature which possesses the distinction of form, that is, holding its own characteristic, is ascertained by clinging to the non-difference of appearance and discrimination, which appears through direct perception or inference. Just as the nature of things is seen as being closely needed for accomplishing affairs in relation to the distinction of form, so also the distinction of times such as past and present, and the distinction of the place of dependence, are also seen as having the nature of being closely needed. Among these, the distinction of form is definite, while place and time are indefinite. Therefore, just as with the distinction of form, if one considers or imagines that the place and time where an object appears to be closely needed for accomplishing affairs are confused, then that cognition is a false cognition. For if one abandons the place or time that is not confused in accomplishing affairs, then the object itself will be completely abandoned, because the difference of place and time also causes the difference of objects. Otherwise, if different discriminations are not the cause of difference, then everything would become one. Therefore, for whatever sees the function of place, time, and form, it is a false cognition to grasp any different place, time, and form other than that, because the ability is not grasped, or even if it is grasped, it has no ability. If someone asks: At the time of life and destruction, isn't the center of the sun seen above the head with the nature of both at noon, and similarly, at the time of rising and setting, isn't the center of the sun seen on the tree? It is not located in that place, and isn't holding it also not valid? The answer is: It is true. However, what is closely needed for accomplishing affairs is precisely that place and that object. The knowledge that is not confused about the place where the accomplishment of affairs of which places is held is not inverted. Therefore, when definitely connecting with affairs, it is desired not to abandon the place that appears through knowledge. Because the place with distinction for which one aims at accomplishing affairs is the ultimate place for it. Therefore, if someone asks: How can one place become many places? Doesn't it appear as many places? The answer is: It is not many places, but

It is merely a matter of great distance. Because of the distance, it appears to face all places, and even if it exists there, it appears as such. Similarly, when one sees the ground at the edge of trees, etc., and does not see the part in between, it appears as if one is grasping something that is stuck together. Even though it is one thing that is situated far away, it is seen as being in accordance with itself, and in the distance, everything will be seen as if the edges are stuck together. Therefore, it is not that one sees different things, or that one sees things that exist. Seeing due to different places and times is not only a delusion about things, but also leads to action. Like this, when grasping something from another place that is related to something else, if one engages in a relationship with another time and place, one will never obtain the desired manifestation. Therefore, because seeing that the certainty of place, time, and form is effective, and because effectiveness is also the object of action, the certainty of place, time, and form is the basis of action, and the ability of things of place, time, and form to be effective is the object of action. In this way, that which has become certain is also the one who performs the action. Therefore, whatever meaning of the certainty of place, time, and form is determined by something, that itself is the object of its action. Because what is undetermined is not the object of action, because place, time, and form related to another place are other. If one determines the other, then it is not determining the other, because it is too extreme. Only certainty itself obtains the object of action, and that is valid cognition, while the other is not valid cognition. Therefore, because it is not grasping other aspects of a form that is capable of being effective, it is not the object of action itself. For example, in a mirage, grasping the very form that is capable of being effective, such as wiping it away with knowledge, is the object of action, but the mirage is not grasped, so the scope of action related to other knowledge should be obtained. Similarly, in the light of a jewel, the object of action of knowing the light as a jewel is the jewel itself in the realm of light. Obtaining the jewel is like before. Because whatever is capable of being effective, its seen realm is the object of action, and not something else. Even if the shapes are similar, different places also cause differences.
