Some are done through direct perception, such as goldsmiths and jewelers, just as they understand the nature of things. Similarly, knowing through direct perception is also the same. The reason is not unestablished either. Because, that itself is self-awareness. Even if it is not certain to be different, but because there are differences in place, time, manifester, and holder, if it is meaningless, it will not be confused with the knowledge that arises, because they are able to represent. Therefore, seeing once and not being certain to be different, the reason for later manifesting the differences is only this much. And, this also exists in it. If it is not done through direct perception, then it necessarily relies on other reasons, and it contradicts the nature of just that reason. Therefore, the incompleteness of the reason itself is a contradiction, and when it returns from the inconsistent side, the consistent side itself is the nature of being established. The common understanding of trees is the place of leaves and so on that are not different from it. Entering into it is the previous direct perception itself. The previous one, as the holder of the difference, is initially uncertain, but later it will be determined from other aspects. Therefore, for the knowledge that holds the difference, one should be skeptical. Just like that, there will not be any mutual dependence, because entering is also seen from doubt. That which can function and is not deceptive, that is, the ability to obtain it, is considered a valid means of cognition. If it depends on the object to be measured, then it is not universal. Therefore, it is not different from it, having it itself is enlightenment. For entering with the fruit of attainment, it is the main one, therefore it is considered to be two kinds. In the difference with independence and autonomy, because of establishing the place, therefore for knowledge, it is considered to be the attainer itself. Therefore, it itself is a valid means of cognition. For the place of definite entry and the object to be attained, it will not enter other places, and the object to be attained will not be in other places either, therefore entering is also definite. Knowledge without a place is not other, therefore it is called a valid means of cognition. Relying on the place of entry, it itself is that the thing has two aspects: it arises by wanting the result, and it has its proximate use. Wisdom is the ultimate of things, and action is the ultimate of entering. Knowledge with its own place, the following of existence and non-existence is consistent, and with other consciousnesses

It is not other, but to obtain other certainty and uncertainty. Thoroughly knowing the only need, the only object to be taken by the one who wants to take. The definite transformation without difference is also the object of one that enters into many. The object of one entry is also the object of activity of one valid cognition (pramāṇa). Because there is no meaning in others, that one is the achiever. From the differences of object, time, and illuminator, and the holding without darkness, this transformation is also determined from oneself. Even if it is valid cognition from others, there is no mutual dependence, because this worldly benefit also enters from doubt. I do not know arrogance and hatred of the wise, nor do I know that it is difficult to find joy in unraveling the knots of the treatise. However, looking at the appearance itself with the eyes of an elephant and treating it as something else, this world does not fail to enter into the object of manifest desire and joy. By the teacher himself, who taught the sound of valid cognition, from individual and all things, may I, Dharmottara, who have obtained virtue, accomplish the benefit of all beings. The Examination of Valid Cognition, composed by the teacher Dharmottara, is completed. Translated by the monk Lodan Sherab. Pramāṇaparīkṣā. Dharmottara.
