That itself is valid cognition. Since that itself exists as a cause in an uncertain manner through transmission, that itself is valid cognition, because there is no other. If it is asked how it is possible to ascertain that which is produced from that, for the time being, inference and the direct perception of the consciousness that performs a function arise from seeing the nature itself. Because existence is the ability to perform a function, if that is grasped, what other object is there to be sought? Therefore, it is certain that it alone has a purpose. Furthermore, without performing a function, the direct perception that grasps the object, with the object of its own nature to be proven, the object that is sought is that which engages with the object, which is to some extent a valid cognition from something else, that is, it is certain in grasping the object itself, but not in grasping the distinction. For example, when a consciousness with the appearance of a red glow arises from afar, although there is doubt about the distinction, "Is this a collection of doubts about a meat flower, or is it like a pile of fire?", it is certain to grasp the nature of the red glow, but not to grasp the distinction itself. Only the red glow is the certain grasping of the object and is also the object of action. Certainty about the distinction comes from seeing the connection with smoke and so on, or from the direct perception itself that is nearby. It is considered that the former is what obtains that object. Thus, inference is a valid cognition that ascertains an object from the certainty of possessing what is invariably absent and possessing it. Direct perception is from ascertaining the appearance of what is grasped, but not from seeing what is invariably absent. Here, the certainty of the object, time, and aspect of the red glow that is close to being useful for action abides manifestly in that previous consciousness, otherwise there would be no doubt about relying on the object of that object. With just that, the function of direct perception is completely fulfilled for the object. Later, due to some causes, there is doubt about the invariable absence of what is seen and ascertained, and the object will also be touched. If that becomes certain, then doubt will not remain about the object that is seen and ascertained. Therefore, from other consciousness

That which is the characteristic of not arising without the nature of knowing, that very valid cognition is to ascertain what was previously uncertain, not the object itself. Clinging to the aspect of previous seeing that has not disappeared, that clinging is memory. If one apprehends different objects, then it is valid cognition for its own object, like apprehending the touch that is experienced together. Regarding the very thing that apprehends, if one doubts that it does not arise without it, then it becomes necessary to ascertain it for others, the moment itself is apprehended in that way, but it is not certain, however, the object itself is to be understood. Therefore, just as one imputes water to a mirage, because there is no uncertainty, the knowledge that apprehends its own characteristic is not valid cognition, is it the moment itself? Others are to be understood by inference, not by direct perception. If another knowledge that ascertains does not arise in between, then it is also from the knowledge that performs a function. Therefore, just as being valid cognition from others depends on the difference of truth, so also apprehending only the object depends on the difference of the object, and it is ascertained as valid cognition just like that. Doubting the difference itself, whichever of the two cases it is, that also ascertains its own nature from others. For example, if one feels that the knowledge appearing as fire has arisen in me here, then one will say, "What has arisen?" Or, when one experiences the knowledge appearing as fire, one will not doubt either, one will think, "Is this meaningless?" At that time, the object of entry is the very appearance of everything, and when the object of entry is established, the valid cognition is also the previous one. Some are valid cognition from themselves alone, they are the apprehension of objects that transform into differences with connections. Because deluded knowledge arises in accordance with the certainty of the object, time, clarity, and cause. For example, mistaking a desert and small things for large, and appearing mixed in the distance. At noon, due to being weakened by heat, one ascertains a mirage as water because the knowledge is unclear, and when illuminated by a candle, one apprehends blue lotuses and so on as red, like apprehending two moons because of being deceived by cataracts. All these delusions are produced by the certainty of objects. Therefore, proximity of the object and
