It is known that the meaning does not arise without seeing an object that has the characteristics of time, the characteristics of manifestation, the senses not being impaired, the self not being afflicted by sleep, etc., and the grasping of a state such as the determination of a place. Thus, the nature of such a consciousness is known from the habit of experiencing the grasping of objects, not just once. The one who realizes determines its nature only through experience. If someone says that because the forms are similar, there is no difference between the manifest and the appearance at the time of birth, that is not true, because it is determined by grasping the difference of the connection. Doubt or reversal may occur in such objects, but not in all cases. Otherwise, how can the distinguishing function of smoke be shown by direct perception itself? Because there is a cause for illusion. If it is said that direct perception itself determines its result, but not consciousness, what is the reason for this? From the point of view of terminology, it is also called valid cognition because it is accustomed to it, so it is spoken of in terms of terminology, but not only as a consciousness that can function. Therefore, such a situation is not derived from inference. If it is said that when the meaning of this object is determined from previous habit, it should become inference, then in that case, smoke should also become inference. Because it has already been determined that it is the result of fire, later, only from seeing its appearance, it is remembered as "this is that," but not inference. If someone, from the perspective of the worldly Lokayata, says that this does not go beyond the category of inference, then there, for all the clarity of the sense consciousness existing in oneself and others, the ability to obtain meaning should be determined by inference, not by experience. Therefore, it is said that the object of experience is unawakened. Therefore, here, experience is what does not arise without meaning. Because of some forms of reasoning, the ability to obtain it is inferred, not experienced.

Because it is not clear, it is not similar. Some people think that for a nearby object, knowledge sees that it does not deceive reality, and from this it is known that the senses are not damaged, and for a non-nearby object, it is also recognized as its own nature. This statement is not correct. Because, all the consciousnesses that appear as two moons are not deceived because they see the nearby stainless sky. If it is said that those consciousnesses themselves are different, then it is necessary to take an oath. Even if it is admitted that they are different, it is not reliable, because they simultaneously hold truth and untruth. Therefore, all the previously mentioned objects with relational differences, the conventionally named perceptual consciousnesses, are always valid only from themselves when it is certain that they will not arise without it. Doubt about the difference, if it is a distant object, always comes from others; for the general nature of things, it comes only from itself; doubt about the difference itself that is held, both of these situations come only from others. For the image of perception, such as being determined as a thing or a tree, but without determining the difference, or being determined as fire, but doubting whether it is true, this is determined from others. Because before doubt arises, the object of entry has already been known. What enters it is perception, not the later doubt, because it does not enter its image. If the world does not enter even from doubt, then when doubt arises, it will not enter. Therefore, validity comes from others, but it does not enter from doubt. If, at the very beginning of entry, it is particularly determined as a contradictory nature, then it is not the basis for entering the image of perception, such as holding a mirage. For the discriminating consciousness, because the image appears, it is not knowing the object of entry, and if there is no particular determination, if one does not see that it does not appear, doubt will arise. Therefore, it is entering into doubt itself. If the object of perception is not recognized as different once, that thing similar to another, even if it is seen three or four times, the difference is not distinguished, but due to the power of habituation, it is the difference itself.
