That which, by means of certainty, makes something a single object and thereby obtains that object, is valid only with respect to that object. If it is valid in dependence on the object of engagement that is adhered to, then even one thing will become the object of many. For example, sound itself is established by direct perception. Being made is inference, and impermanence itself is also by another inference. Otherwise, since sound is direct perception, it does not become the object of another valid cognition because there is no unapprehended aspect. In reality, many things are also the object of a single valid cognition, just as in the case of those who apprehend different objects, one itself becomes valid. For example, the sense consciousnesses that apprehend many moments of cognition in the same continuum, although the apprehended objects are different, are not valid cognitions because the object of definite engagement is the same, and the others are recollections of it. Furthermore, what kind of multiple objects are the object of a single valid cognition, and what kind of multiple objects are the object of multiple valid cognitions? The object of a single engagement, even if it is multiple, is the object of a single valid cognition. The object of different engagements is uncertain, because of the distinction between the object of one and the object of many. Even the object of a single engagement, the knowledge that approaching the object for which one engages in it is uncertain. For example, for those knowledges for which approaching the result of the reason for engagement is uncertain, it is impossible to definitely engage in a single object. If one engages in the object merely because of definitely associating with the desired result, how can it be definite if it is uncertain? If that which has only that reason is uncertain, then it will also become uncertain. For example, just like a sprout associated with a collection of seeds and so forth, this is called nature. That which has only that reason is universally independent of others. Therefore, since it depends on other causes, it itself is unreasonable. The engagement that is the result of merely obtaining the means of the desired result, which is done by wanting to obtain the desired result, is also the object of that. Obtaining another result, which does not arise if it is not started, is because it is related to another engagement. The activity of a person generated by wanting a result is engagement. It also differs according to the difference in the object.

In order to make the place a different place, it will become different. Therefore, the entry generated by desiring other fruits, the cause of obtaining other fruits is only other. Whoever has the desire for one fruit, the place of its method is one. Moreover, if similar moments depend on others, if the cause is different, then in relation to the meaning of attainment, the act of entering is one. Therefore, for whose sake one strives and begins as the cause of that thing, that is called its action. If it does not arise without it, the other is the cause of the other fruit, but it is not the action of the obtainer. If, in this way, it is completely combined by desiring the fruit, its method is that the ultimate entry is one, then because one enters a mirage desiring water, but finds a sandy land, and sees the water in the cave next to it, then that is the ultimate entry is one. Therefore, knowing the mirage as water is also the obtainer of entry, so will it become valid? The answer is: merely by desiring the fruit, entry will not become the place of its method, however, it is necessary to determine the nature, place, and time of its accomplishment. If one knows that the place, time, and nature of accomplishing the task are certain, then it is the place of entry. Therefore, desire also depends on the knowledge of holding the method of obtaining. For this very reason, entry is said to be associated with flaws. Therefore, entry is close to the display of knowledge, the place and time are certain, it is the place of its method. If the unerring knowledge becomes the ultimate of the realm of knowledge, then it will become the ultimate of attainment, and even if there is no fruit, it is the opposite of this. Therefore, entering by desiring the fruit, becoming the place of its method, what is shown by the act of complete entry, only the ultimate of its method, entry is one. Because it is associated with two reasons, due to the difference that the fruit cannot be obtained, it is not the reason for merely desiring. For the mirage, because it is an entry associated with the knowledge of another, it is the other itself. Having become like that, the fruit should be combined with the fish.
