Having said, "It is impermanent because it is apprehended by the senses, like a pot," another person retorted, "The general is permanent. Why is it seen as apprehended by the senses? Why doesn't sound also remain the same?" The reply is, "If it is not only considered apprehended by the senses, then the pot will also become permanent." To prove this, this example is close to permanence, concluding immediately like an inference. Abandoning the proposition is said to harm the thesis. Because it relies on the thesis, it becomes a proposition." The commentator refutes these claims, saying, "If there is no such understanding, how can this harm the thesis?" The opponent cites the general as an example, which is an uncertain reason, because through the fault of uncertainty, it shows that one's own example is permanent. If shown in another way, it will also become a fault of the example not being established, so the fault of the example or the fault of the reason is not a punishment that harms the thesis. If it is thought that harming the example punishes harming the thesis, then it is impossible to fabricate a non-existent example. Harming the thesis should be stated in a real object. Now, the commentator's intention is to state himself, such as dissimilar examples, etc. What example is desired here? If, for the time being, the example examined here by worldly people is famous, then there is no difference from the intention of what is said. If in another way, then it is incomprehensible, therefore it is said that those unseen are also part of the proof, because it exists ultimately, so it is an example. Therefore, one's own sound is included together with the characteristics. The opposite of this is a dissimilar example. For example, when the opponent says, "Sound is impermanent because it is apprehended by the senses," this is in accordance with the dissimilar aspect. Because the apprehension of sound and other things by the senses also applies to the dissimilar aspect, the reason will become erroneous. In this way, if it is said that harm is caused in a general way, then sound will also be the same.
