It should be thought of in this way. Because of relying on other meanings, fault-finding arises. From the perspective of explaining the true meaning of "thing," dharma is also another meaning. However, if, contrary to the former, it is transformed by the view of Samkhya's Ishvara, even if "thing" is not another meaning, it is considered the cause of dharma, then it is said that "dharma is other." Even if "thing" is not another meaning, it is admitted that it is the cause of dharma. Similarly, from other causes, results arise. If you also think that "thing" itself is completely transformed, then what will that become? The answer is: Furthermore, if you follow the view of the Tathagata, there is no contradiction. Why? Because it also admits that "thing" as the continuity of cause and effect, just as when the "thing" of a lump of clay becomes the cause of the previous, and from it arises the fruit of another meaning, the later "thing" of a pot, the "thing" of clay is completely transformed, this different way of speaking. If the two states transformed into self are also completely transformed, then there should be no arising of states. The answer is: It is said that dharma and thing, etc., therefore, it is concluded that from both perspectives, it is not completely transformed. It is not the dharma of a "thing" without difference, nor is it certain that there is another meaning outside of "thing," however, it is another state of the arrangement of "thing," for example, the arrangement of the shape of fingers into a fist, it cannot be said to be both the same and different. Why? Because from that, it is not a fist that does not distinguish fingers. Why? Because there is no fist when stretched. If it is not so, then because there is no difference from stretching, it will become the fist itself, like the state of a fist, which is transformed like the reason of self-nature. The fist is also not another meaning, because the cause different from the fingers, namely the ability, obstruction, and effort that arise, cannot be seen. Ishvara sometimes says that, summarizing the desired necessity, these "no differences" have been explained. No, because the fist is the special fist of the fingers.

That is the answer. How can this be understood as an example of the fingers themselves being no different from a fist? What is said here, "because there is no fist in outstretched fingers," is illogical. Why? Because the fingers themselves, through the power of specific causes and conditions, are sometimes a fist, but not always. Why is that? It is said that the fingers are not of a nature that is no different from being outstretched. In "fist and fingers," the word "and" should be understood as distinguishing. Or, it should be said that the nature of a fist is outstretched fingers, not separate entities with no distinction. Why? Because it is the case in both situations, that is, the object of being outstretched. Because it would lead to understanding the order of the two states of being outstretched and not outstretched. Moreover, because the state of being outstretched will be understood as the state of not being outstretched, and because the fingers are without difference, just like the state of not being outstretched, this is the reason of self-nature. Just as the state of not being outstretched is understood in this way, it should be applied to other situations as well. Likewise, it is not both in both cases, which is the non-apprehension of what pervades. However, in some cases, when there is a state of existing differently, there are two analyses: is it a different finger, or has it become its nature? The first is to point out the fault, that the very thing that has become a different nature is itself the characteristic of different things, such as happiness and suffering. The second statement is that even if a difference is produced, the outstretched finger itself will still be noticed, which is the difference in the state of a fist. Why? Because if the nature of something arises in an unchanging way, then it would lead to the failure to notice other forms, just as the birth of a baby elephant other than the meaning of the finger would lead to being noticed. Similarly, if the nature of something is unchanging, then what arises from that meaning will also be noticed differently, for example, the birth of a cow and an elephant. Unchanging
