Recognizing that it is different in nature from the former, what is called that kind of arising is: what kind of nature of fire and firewood gathering, the initial arising of smoke, that kind of arising, is that kind of arising, isn't it? Because that also arises from smoke. Like this, from what and what is seen, it is also seen that it exists in other things, so it is thought that everything is not trustworthy, therefore it is said, "If it is like this." Even if it is not smoke arising from fire, smoke will arise, and it will also arise from the crown of Indra, etc., so there is no contradiction. Thinking that the concomitance and contraposition of fire and smoke are not real, the former's doubt is said like this: How do momentary things arise depending on certain things? What is called the cause is from existence, this arises, from that it exists. Therefore, in smoke that is not fire, how is smoke possible? The crown of Indra is also like that, who can eliminate this possibility? If it is said like this, the established proponent says no, saying like this, what kind of smoke arises from the gathering of firewood, the same is not produced from other things, because the power of the cause is different, the similarity determined from certain selves is also different. Similar to this, the moment of fire and firewood gathering, the first moment arising from other things, is not other moments, similarly, from things other than that, that is, arising from other fire and firewood gatherings, so that kind of smoke is impossible to arise simultaneously. In some cases, the untrustworthiness of the result is not real. Similarly, what kind of second moment arises, just like when the first moment of smoke arises, similar to that moment of smoke, the second and third moments of smoke, etc., arising from the first moment of other smoke. Similarly, for the sprout, etc., of the third moment, etc., everything should also be said like this. Then, from what should this be distinguished? It is not arising from that, that is, not arising from the nature of fire and firewood, etc., but from the nature arising from smoke that is not like that, the first moment and nature.

Dissimilar smoke is never, not even once. Since it does not arise from a collection of fire and so on, it is unreasonable to arise. For example, the second moment in relation to the first moment is similar to it, and similarly, that which is in relation to the first moment is also the same without difference, so it is similar. Since that which arises from non-fire does not have the same nature as that which is born from fire, it never arises from that. If it is the nature to be produced by it, then it is the self, how can it be dissimilar? Therefore, that which arises from the dissimilar is not dissimilar, so there is no confusion. If all the moments of smoke are urgently needed for the functions of drying the throat and causing tears, and darkening the color, how can it not become a nature similar to that? There is no function for that either, because the nature that depends on different moments is not similar to that, so the fault is the same from that. If that is the case, then how do all worldly people say it is smoke? Because of the power of clinging to the single reason for the arising of other similarities, it can be called a moment. If the similar is similar to that, how can it be different? Because the similar is different from that which is similar to it. If that is the case, then a cow that has become similar to a bull is not similar to that, but the cow itself is similar to that other. In ultimate truth, there is no similarity with that, but who can eliminate the arising of those of inferior intelligence who want to be similar to that? If that is the case, then the one who sees this shore is not able to eliminate the temporary clinging to it, what is the use of clinging to what is similar to that? It is said: For those whose shape and color are similar, and who are born from other causes, it is not that, and what is the use for foolish people, even for the constant one? It is said. By merely thinking about that, one can infer the different causes of what is similar to that and what is dissimilar to that, therefore one can infer what is similar to that and what is dissimilar to that. When it is not that same, and when there is no similarity to that which is dissimilar to that, because it is not the nature of producing that, it is not arising from that, and it will never arise from that.
