If the proponent says so, it is unreasonable. Similarly, when I see smoke in a certain place, I associate it with the fact that smoke is necessarily accompanied by fire, and thus I gain knowledge of fire. Even if some people do not explicitly say it, they can realize that "there is fire here," just as others can also recognize things through gradual reasoning. If someone says that even without an indicator, they can determine things by measuring and follow their understanding, then "oneself" should be mentioned. If someone does not indicate, then relying solely on oneself, one cannot recognize fire and other things even slightly before the appearance of the sign. If asked why, it is because valid cognition is the cause, and absence is emptiness. Because there is no reason to recognize it as "there is fire here," how can it be if there is no three-aspect reasoning to prove the hidden thing? If someone says that even without a sign, one can recognize it in this way, then if one wants to recognize it in this way, the sign is meaningless. Because it is originally for the sake of knowledge that is easy to infer, if one can recognize it even without it, how can it not be unnecessary? In order to point out that others are very foolish, "oneself" is mentioned. How can one reliably determine by arbitrarily asserting "there is fire here"? Why can one determine even without valid cognition? The reason for recognizing this is to facilitate the determination of things by measuring, and then to follow the reason of the sign. What is this division of the order of recognition? If so, it is reasonable to first follow the sign and then recognize the thing to be proven. If one says what should be inferred first, that is reversed, which would become a laughing stock. This is like the worldly saying, asking about the stars after shaving one's head, this order is the same as that situation. Therefore, by grasping the property of one side and relying solely on the power of universal association, one can recognize it oneself. And saying that this is expressed through an indicator is because one knows nothing about measurable things.

There is no basis. If it is reasonable to understand what one should do by inferring for oneself, even if one examines it, it is said that only oneself can understand it. As for inferring for others' affairs, just as others indicate the sign, the things to be measured should also be indicated by others. Therefore, if one thinks that the statement of the proposition is reasonable. Then, even if others know and say it, it is still flawed. If one only distinguishes oneself beforehand, it is a mistake. When others refute, saying what needs to be measured is also a mistake. Saying these things actually expresses doubt about the meaning. Because this is not a definite part, the things to be measured are profound and difficult to understand, and it is difficult to understand even through indirect means. Just because one wants to express things that are related to neither this nor that, it seems empty. Why is it flawed? Because there is no practical need. Here, understanding what needs to be proven has no practical need at all. This means that there is no difference between understanding it and understanding its meaning. Others think that there is a practical need in some cases, so they mention "the near place," meaning that the place of argument is what needs to be proven. If it is said that the words of the proposition are close to what is needed, then the place is indicated by "itself." What is mentioned temporarily is gradual. If it is meaningful to point out the place closely, then if it is pointed out, the words of the proposition will become doubtful, then what is the use of pointing out the place itself? What is the need? If it is said that in order to understand what needs to be proven, and the statements related to similar things, etc., it is necessary to express the meaning of the place close to understanding, then it is necessary to say the words of the proposition, and if so, it is necessary to point out what needs to be proven, for example, saying "what is made is impermanent," then what is the statement related to similar things here? Or one does not even know what is the statement related to dissimilar things. Here, both arise doubts. Because what is made itself is to prove impermanence, which is related to similar things, while permanence is what is not made, which is a dissimilar thing. Sound is impermanent because it is made, which can be understood without doubt through the words of the proposition, and the argument is contradictory and uncertain.
