It is naturally established. That is because it is actually its own nature, so merely having the dharma that can establish it, and being related to it, it is certain to become the dharma to be established. Whatever has the dharma that can establish it, must have the thing to be established, and things arise gradually in this way. An example of this is: for example, whatever exists must be momentary, and grasping it in this way is saying that it is pervasive. This is explaining the nature of the dharma that can establish it and the nature of those things that are related to it. Because there is no other reason, only what exists is momentary, and showing it in this way is because it is actually its own nature that is established. In order to show the measure of all the harms that establish it, something that is not momentary contradicts momentariness itself, because it contradicts the ability to function of existence, so it contradicts the function of the result of things. Its characteristic is the characteristic of functioning. Whatever is the nature of the thing itself that can function is what is being spoken of. Functioning is the characteristic of the thing itself of its existing nature, and the decay of the thing in that way is change. Because non-existence is derived from that changing nature, this measure of harm is also pervasive, and is the nature of non-manifestation, that is, the occurrence of later circumstances and the interruption of oneself. That is because there is a measure of harm, so the nature of the dharma to be established, the dharma that can establish it, is naturally established. That is because it is actually its own nature, so it is established only in relation to the dharma that can establish it. In this way, for the reason of self-nature, there is a measure that can harm change, and because it is established as its own nature, it is explained that it must follow. The reason for the fruit is to be shown below: this is the occasion when the reason for the fruit must follow. Here, what is the nature of cause and effect? The cause itself and the effect itself, and what is established there is realization. That is the reason for the fruit must follow, and how it is established as the thing of cause and effect, just like that it is shown:

Thus it is said, named "Thus it is." The word "Thus it is" indicates proximity. If smoke and so on, this fire is seen, then it is related as "proximity is seen." This, by establishing the reality of cause and effect, is the function of direct perception. Direct perception alone cannot establish the reality of cause and effect without doubt. However, in order to stabilize together with what was previously unseen, it is said to be "the unseen that has become the object of perception." If smoke and so on, that object has the cause of being seen in proximity, which has become the object of perception, and has the nature of appearance, then it will become visible. From the proximity of the assembly of fire and so on, previously from the proximity of the assembly of fire and so on being seen, it is established that there is a result of being seen in proximity. If other causes of being seen in proximity are not complete, then it does not arise. Even if the object of the nature of being seen in proximity is nearby, because it has not become the object of perception, therefore, from the proximity of the assembly of fire and so on, previously being seen in proximity does not exist. From the unseen that has become the object of perception, from the proximity of the assembly of fire and so on arising, previously it came from elsewhere, or because that place and time are nearby, in walls and caves and so on, that arises or exists in that place, these three situations are clear. With these situations, if it changes to a non-that result, then it will change. Therefore, the unseen eliminates the doubt of the non-that result, because the reason that it exists is grasped by direct perception, therefore, the relationship of cause and effect is established without doubt. If fire and firewood and other things are definitely nearby, there is doubt whether smoke will arise from some non-manifest nature. Because fire and firewood and so on are different, the following smoke, because sandalwood and camphor, and agarwood and hair and wool and other different firewood are seen, following them and having different natures, and the change of firewood, with the action of large and small, following that fire, and fire and firewood and so on are nearby, it cannot arise from the definite proximity of the non-manifest nature, because there is no relationship. The relationship itself is the cause or the effect of
