Through distinguishing objects such as vases, the existence of "non-existence" is established, because the nature of that "non-existence" is occupied by that location. These two aspects, the location and the non-mingling with the vase, their essence is also a different essence. Therefore, it is not other or merely a vase, but there exists a basis for recognizing the vase, therefore the two aspects are manifestly cognized, because it will cognize the self-nature that is different from the vase and the state of being empty of the vase. In order to establish that things are not intermingled, or to explain "this is not," therefore other valid cognitions, i.e., not tsampa, will be explained in detail later, so put it aside for now. Because the establishment of the existence of the other itself is established by the reasoning that explains "non-existence," therefore the existence of the other is not established. In order to explain the second reason for refuting "non-existence," it is mentioned "also because of no connection," because there is no connection whatsoever between the existence of the other and that "non-existence," therefore from where does the characterized object arise? If one must speak of time, then when the nature of that "non-existence" is considered to be dependent on the nature of the existence of the other, the nature of that "non-existence" that is different from the existence of the other is established only when it is considered to be the other. If it is not so, then the existence of the other itself is the nature of "non-existence," if it is explained by reasoning that it is its self-nature, then how can there be no connection? That which is established by direct perception will not be changed by other aspects, through relying on "that" and "this" and so on, connection is the gathering in one place, this is the explanation of other treatises. Others, such as the Vaibhashikas, say that "made" and "impermanent," different dharmas gather in one dharmin, therefore "made" and "impermanent" are the connection of gathering in one dharmin. Other examples of gathering in one place and connection are: Here, in order to gather in one meaning, the word "union" is used to express the state of truly possessing. For union and gathering in one place, because they are permanent dharmas, one should not be respectful of explaining them as different. The opponent believes that fire and smoke gather in their own limbs, but they do not gather in one meaning, because fire and smoke, according to other schools, are the supporting and supported objects, worldly people explain the connection in this way.

and causing to arise, is said to be caused by an essential connection. So, if in essence fire is the producer, is the other the produced? That which has been studied together with the Īśvara school, is that called a sign of reason? If another thing exists, then it is impossible for it not to exist, why say it? Indeed, it is said because it arises incidentally, in order to refute their view. Since the prior existence of another thing has been proven by direct perception, there is no need to refute it, and if one infers from something other than direct perception for that meaning, then it would be too extreme. Having spoken of incidental arising, now this is to be said: when it is proven by direct perception that another thing exists, it will not become non-existent, at that time, by something other than direct perception, saying that the pot does not exist, such a form, having the nature of difference and being able to be differentiated, and proximity, etc., would be considered desirable? If there is no connection, then if another thing exists, it does not exist, these differences and objects that can be differentiated are unreasonable, because it would be too extreme, therefore, from where does its nature and proximity not exist, it will become direct perception. Thus, the nature of the connection that has been spoken of is impossible here, therefore it is said that things exist, etc. Just as what is made and impermanent, and fire and smoke, etc., the connection of the nature of gathering together in meaning, for things that exist and do not exist, there is nothing like that. Connections, etc., will not become proof of the establishment of other things when it does not exist. If that is the case, then the abiding that abides on the dharma nature of having the same meaning, whatever abides, will gather in the same meaning, for other things to exist, it is said in the place. Abiding on its own limbs, therefore there is no pot in that place. If that is the case, then there is no pot in the constituent parts of the part, it is not the place. The limbs of the place are not the author, because the nature of that substance is composed of things different from the substance itself, therefore the non-existence of the pot, the substance is considered to be nine forms. If having action, etc., is the nature of the substance, then such a thing does not exist. The nature of quality does not enter into that. Quality is considered to be twenty-four, these are not different from those. The nature of action is not five forms, not one's own action and one's own immediately following
