If it is not applied, then what is it related to? Even if we examine the application of benefit, if the nature of things does not want to generate any difference or non-difference with its own essence, then even if it exists, there is nothing other than its own nature, from what does it become the nature of different and non-different things? Even if the difference and non-difference of things are shown by the power of difference. Moreover, if it is different, then it is only the state of the nature of things, because its nature has no difference or non-difference. Again, by its power, the state or non-state of the thing examined as different and non-different is different and non-different. Or, when there is difference and non-difference, it becomes that the nature of things has been made different and non-different. Because it is impossible to have a cause other than its nature. That which arises later from another cause becomes other than it. It is not the action of the nature of things itself, because its own cause has changed. If it is examined that only from its own cause, the nature of things sometimes arises as the nature of difference and non-difference, then there is no meaning other than difference and non-difference. The wisdom of difference and non-difference is also established by it. Therefore, the nature of the generality of the difference and non-difference examined by the Vaisheshika school and others is unreasonable. Only the nature of things is said to be the sound of difference and non-difference. Because those are without cause, the nature of things becomes without cause. Therefore, because things are without cause, they become either eternally existent or non-existent, because without cause: if things sometimes exist, they become eternally existent. Or, that which sometimes does not exist also becomes eternally non-existent, and sometimes existent is unreasonable. Why? Because for that which becomes a cause, it does not depend even occasionally. Because what depends is that which exists if the cause exists, and does not exist if the cause does not exist, that is dependence, that is, occasionality. An occasional thing is not another kind. Therefore, from dissimilar characteristics, there is no result of dissimilar characteristics.

If one admits the production of fruit, then according to the reasoning stated, one would fall into the fault of having no cause. Again, in order to establish another fault of producing a result that is not different in nature from aspects that are different in nature, it is stated as follows: The things to be established that are determined individually are pots and cloths, and so on. The method of establishing is clay and so on, which worldly people combine. If one wants to obtain pots and so on, one must definitely combine lumps of clay and so on. If one wants to obtain cloth from thread, but because it is neither thread nor a lump of clay, it will not become cloth. Why? The so-called power of the cause is stated, that is, any collection with the characteristic of excelling in the nature of power, this and that are determined individually, some collections can bring the result closer, while others are not of that nature. Because a little bit of earth and so on can only establish pots and so on, there is a difference. Others are the same in nature as this, but do not arise from threads and so on. Why? Because clay and so on themselves can become the power of pots and so on, while others cannot become that power. If one asks why that itself can become that power, and others cannot? It is stated that those two, that is, earth and so on, and thread and so on, their nature of producing, and the nature of producing pots and so on, and another nature, producing pots and so on are different, because there is no other reason. The nature of clay and so on, and thread and so on, is not produced by another nature other than that. When one does not want the powers of collections that are mutually different in nature to be determined individually, then because one admits that a result that is not different in nature also arises from aspects that are different in nature, so it is not that nature, and it will also become the nature of producing gatherings and so on from aspects that are different in nature. What is the nature of the collection of causes such as fire and firewood, the top of the head of Indra, which is not different in nature from that nature, or the smoke that depends on the moment, does not exist, even if it arises from the collection of firewood, it will not produce that moment of smoke.
