If only the means of refutation could invalidate everything to be established, then, where there is no means of refutation, the thing to be established would be established solely by itself, so the reason would be meaningless. To this, someone might think, 'From then on, only refutation exists, therefore the reason becomes meaningful.' Therefore, it is said, 'The existence of refutation is also,' etc. If there is refutation there, then at that time, because there is no ability to establish, the reason is indeed meaningless. In this way, if a means of refutation exists, then the reason cannot establish what it is supposed to establish. Therefore, what is the need for it? From the perspective of the second distinction, it is said, 'If it is uncertain,' etc. For the uncertain aspect, the meaning of the words has neither a means of refutation, nor is it possible that there is nothing to be established, this can be understood in this way. 'Without a means of refutation, there is nothing to be established,' this is a summary statement. Therefore, for something without refutation, even if there is not the slightest ability, that object without refutation is not needed in the slightest, this is a summary statement. In this way, if the non-existence of what is to be established is caused solely by the means of refutation, then, in order to completely avoid refutation, it is meaningful to speak of an object without refutation. When there is no means of refutation, and there is only nothing to be established, then it is meaningless to speak of an object without refutation. It is said like this, 'If where there is no refutation, there exists something to be established without being refuted, then it is reasonable to speak of no refutation.' When, just like there is no refutation, there is also nothing to be established, then what is the use of speaking of no refutation? This is because the other party is afraid of the fault of arguing against both situations, so it is said, 'Relying on another path, no refutation is,' etc. Because what is to be established can be established solely through no refutation, the sound of no refutation is not spoken. Then what is it? Not finding refutation is no refutation. Not finding refutation is also, because seeing is with faults.

Sometimes harm may exist, but it exists in the person. Sometimes, even if there is harm, one thinks, "It's not visible." Therefore, that becomes the realm for applying reasoning. It is said, "When harm is not apparent, it is called no harm, and at that time, reasoning also has a result. Not causing harm is also accomplished through speaking." The proponent of the established conclusion, in order to refute, says, "Reasoning fears seeing harm," etc. He says, "Hey, reasoning fears seeing harm, doesn't it fear harm? Since you consider harm as valid cognition, do you want to apply reasoning merely because harm is not apparent? For the time being, it is reasonable to fear harm, because it, like a rakshasa, will devour all the children of reasoning. Seeing (harm), being separated from afflictions, even if it devours, what can it devour?" The proponent of the established conclusion, in order to make the opponent take a vow, says, "That reasoning is truly," etc. You say, whatever reasoning you apply, whether there is harm or not in reality, shouldn't it be applied without relying solely on the fact that harm is not apparent? The opponent says: It should be applied, applied well, applied completely. The proponent of the established conclusion says, "Why should it be applied?" In order to establish what meaning, the opponent says, "In order to establish what should be established," thinking, "Even if what should be established is established, what's wrong with that?" and applies reasoning. The proponent of the established conclusion says, "Even so, even if there is harm, still," etc. If you apply reasoning in order to establish what should be established, then even so, even if there is harm, can it establish what should be established? If so, you neither strive to eliminate harm, nor do you apply reasoning in order to establish what should be established. The opponent says, "It can be established completely," therefore, even so, it is still the realm of not having caused harm.
