Even at that time, when wanting to show the general existence of "there is no pot in that and that place," it must be considered that, for the example, there is no other valid cognition, only grasping the direction away from the pot, that object is precisely to establish the dharma to be established, that is, the establishment of the absence of the pot. For that establishment, it must also be said that there is no other valid cognition, only this non-perception is the establishment. For that establishment, other examples must also be stated, which is endless. If it is endless, then initially, what is intended to be established itself will not become the understanding of the absence of the pot. To conclude the text, therefore, it is said "from any sign" etc. Because in that way it is said, establishing the existence of other and the non-perception of the object having that realm, as a sign is unreasonable. Therefore, it must be admitted that from any sign, the non-existence of things cannot be established. If the non-existence of things cannot be established from any sign, then if milk is not established, how can the imputation of the name of non-existence be established? Therefore, it is said "by the non-perception of the characteristic of direct perception" etc. If the other existence as the characteristic of the direction, by the non-perception of the characteristic of direct perception, is established by the nature of the object of the direction, then the imputation of the name of non-existence is established. The non-existence of things is only established at the time of understanding the direction, such as when understanding the direction away from the pot, the absence of the pot will also be understood. If the absence of the pot is established, then the imputation of the name of non-existence is also established. Who, after understanding the non-existence of things, would not impute the name of non-existence to it? Therefore, it is said "understanding ignorance" etc. Even if the non-existence of things is understood, there are such ignorant wisdoms that do not impute the name of non-existence to the non-existence of things, understandings deceived by bad scriptures. For example, even if it is established that the fingertip is devoid of a hundred elephants, some who adhere to the tenets of the Samkhya school will not impute the name of the absence of a hundred elephants to the fingertip. Similarly,
