It is said, "earth," and so on. Because in that way, without distinction, it is impossible to negate all others, therefore, as has been said, it is only from non-apprehension that the non-existence of certain things is established at certain times in certain places, but not from others. Thus, it is established. In that case, the previous objection, "How is the existence of other itself and its object-cognition not the establishment of the non-existence of a thing?" has been temporarily refuted, that the existence of other itself is indeed the establishment of the non-existence of a thing. In order to refute that the object-cognition of the existence of other is the sign of the non-existence of a thing, it is said, "The object-cognition of the existence of other also," and so on. Whatever is the object-cognition of a ground devoid of a pot, that is what establishes the non-existence of a pot, but this is merely according to one's own intention, and it is not at all accepted as a sign. Why is this not accepted as a sign? There, If the non-existence of a thing must also be established separately, it is said, "If the non-existence of a thing must also be established separately," and so on. If it is admitted that the object-cognition of the existence of other, which is to be examined as a sign, must also separately establish the non-existence of a thing, then it is dwelling on the edge of irrelevance. The non-existence of a pot and the object-cognition of the existence of other are not simultaneously gathered in one meaning, nor are they the object and the subject, nor are they the produced and the producer. In order to compare the faults of non-establishment here as well, it is said, "Only at the time when the sign arises," and so on. The time when the sign arises is the time of arising, that is, having previously understood the existence of other, which is the characteristic of a place devoid of a pot, and later clearly showing the subsequent going-along and turning-back of understanding the place without a pot. After that, it is not that the non-existence of a pot is understood by understanding the place. So what is it? It is not like that; it is only by understanding the place devoid of a pot that the non-existence of a pot is understood, but not later. Why is it not accepted as a sign? Because it is not like that; it is only at the time of understanding that non-existence is understood. Therefore, it is said, "As soon as it is seen," and so on. Because manifest

Only at the very end of the three is it determined, without any omission, that this nature of direction exists. The certainty arises that the nature of things like a pot does not exist. Therefore, the non-existence of that and the existence of others are realized simultaneously. Just as one strives for a direction devoid of a pot, and upon seeing the direction, immediately determines that this direction exists, similarly, without seeing a pot that is similar in nature to that very capability, one determines that there is no pot here. The word "determination" here is pervasive, because at the time when the sign arises, it is only then that the absence of a pot is established, therefore these two are not separate entities of sign and sign-possessor. If it is asked, is it only established as non-existent at the time when the sign arises? The answer is, having spoken of realizing the existence of others, first and so on, it is intended to state recollection. Therefore, seeing, realizing, and determining are synonymous terms. It is said, "Because the other argument does not establish an example," meaning that there is no example to establish the absence of a pot by means of an object with a realm of other existence. To show that, it is said, "Which follows which," etc., meaning that the thing that is considered a sign is which thing that is considered a sign, and which thing exists following which thing, is the sign of that thing. If asked, why is there no following? Therefore, it is said, "Like this, where," etc., meaning that, like this, it is not possible to show that where there is an object of a fully apparent direction, there is no pot there. If asked, why is it not possible to show? It is said, "The single object is," etc., meaning that the single object of a fully apparent realm is, wherever it exists, by what means, where and where this exists, there and there is no pot, thus following. To this, if one thinks that completely abandoning the distinction, it follows universally, the answer is, for the universally fully shown example, it is also said, "At what time," etc., meaning that at what time, where and where, there is an object that only grasps the direction devoid of a pot.
