In order to connect, it is mentioned "for things that exist and do not exist," and so on. Just as things that are done and impermanent are related by the characteristic of converging on the same meaning, and just as smoke and fire are related as described, for direction and the absence of a vase, by what cause does the existence of the other, the characteristic of direction, the characteristic of negating the absence of a vase, such a relationship that can be established does not exist. Just as the absence of a vase is nowhere because there is no thing, and because there is no thing itself, it is not any basis. To welcome the doubt of another's intention, it is mentioned "if there are objects of place and objects with place," and so on. For the non-existent and the other existent, there is indeed a relationship of objects of place and objects with place. Thus, it is known that there is no vase in the direction. Therefore, the existence of the other is the place, and the absence of a vase is the object with place. These two are related by the characteristics of place and object with place, like sound and meaning. For a place with branches and so on, the sound of a tree is connected, and these two are also related by the characteristics of place and object with place, so here too it is similar, which is the former view. The one who states the established conclusion says, mentioning "sound and meaning" and so on. If it is thought that sound and meaning are related by the sound of a tree to show the meaning with branches and so on, it is reasonable. Thus, the sound and the meaning with branches and so on have a relationship of the characteristics of cause and effect together. Because what is intended to be expressed is to show the meaning with branches and so on, if it is intended to express such a meaning, because the sound of the tree is connected, the sound is the result and the cause is the intention to express, which is established. If there is no intention to express such a meaning, because the sound of the tree is not connected, these two may also have a relationship of the characteristic of not arising without. The cause and effect of sound and meaning, the thing itself, although it is not born without, however, abandoning the thought of the other, another that is not born without is placed nearby.

Others are those that do not arise if they do not exist, and are considered separate from the relationship of cause and effect. Therefore, the meaning summarized here is this: when the thing one wants to express appears clearly, establishing that thing as it is, and expressing it without distinguishing it from external things, then the sound and meaning are actually the things of cause and effect. Just like this, in order to show the meaning that appears clearly in the thing one wants to express, one wants to combine sounds, and this is one's own tenet. When one wants to express external things by relying on other tenets, then even at that time, the things of cause and effect exist indirectly. Like this, from meaning comes seeing, from seeing comes wanting to express, from wanting to express comes effort, from effort comes wind, from wind comes contact with other places, and from that comes the formation of sound indirectly. This is the intention of the author of the treatise here. Here, there are only actually existing things of cause and effect. If that thing exists, then other things that are completely established in other ways also exist, and it is thought that only a wrong understanding has arisen in name. If one thinks that what does not exist and other existing things will also become like that, therefore it is said, "Because this form also does not exist here," etc. Whatever form of the relationship between sound and meaning is closely shown, this is impossible for what does not exist and other existing things. Therefore, how can those two be related by the nature of object and subject? Why will they not be related? Therefore, it is said, "If those two are established as things to be proven and proving things," etc. When what does not exist and other existing things are established as things to be proven and proving things, they become things of object and subject through the things to be proven and proving things. The things to be proven and proving things themselves cannot be established without a relationship. If the things to be proven and proving things are not established, then the things of object and subject, which are their cause, are even more impossible to exist.
