It is also said, "and so on." Although the dharma to be proven and the dharma of the proof are different, nevertheless, things with similar attributes can also show that things with provable essence have been established, and things with dissimilar attributes can also show. Different dharmas should be viewed from the opposite difference, for example, what is opposite from the permanent dharma is the impermanent dharma, and what is opposite from the unmade dharma is the made dharma. In reality, there is only one, for example, whatever is impermanent is that, and whatever is that is made. Furthermore, why can things with similar attributes and things with dissimilar attributes show its essence? Therefore, it is said, "If its own nature does not exist," and so on. If the dharma of proof is not the essence to be proven, then, wherever there is proof, there must be something to be proven, which is not necessarily the case. For example, wherever there is making, is there necessarily a situation where it appears immediately without effort? For the time being, it is said that things with similar attributes can show its essence. To show things with dissimilar attributes, it is said, "If its own nature is reversed," and so on. If the dharma of proof is not the essence to be proven, then, if what is to be proven is reversed, why must the dharma of proof be reversed? For example, wherever there is no situation where it appears without effort, is there necessarily no making? In order to eliminate the combination of the two at the same time by means of a summary, therefore, it is said, "Therefore, the following and the opposite," and so on. Because, as just said, from things with similar attributes and things with dissimilar attributes, even if one combines a thing with the characteristics mentioned above, it will eliminate the second, so one should not combine two on one proving word. Things with similar attributes and things with dissimilar attributes are explained here as words of following and opposite. Why is it not desirable to combine two on one? Therefore, it is said, "Because it is meaningless." If one has already shown its meaning, then the second is meaningless.
