In order to avoid sensory errors in translation. Whatever ultimately leads to confusion should be called that. Mentioning "etc.," such as dizziness and yellowing of the eyes, should be understood as existing within the senses. Rapid rotation, etc., exists in the object. For example, if you spin a torch around, it creates the illusion that there are fire-colored holes. Riding an elephant, etc., exists on external supports. Violently striking vital points, etc., should be understood as the source of the illusion residing in internal supports. Through these, if no illusion arises, then the consciousness with that state is direct perception. Having explained the definition in this way, in order to eliminate the misconceptions of those who think that only the senses are observers, criticize the definition of mental direct perception, and do not acknowledge self-awareness and the consciousness of yogis, the classification of direct perception is explained. Therefore, the phrase "it is fourfold" is mentioned. Consciousness related to the senses is called sensory consciousness, and whatever relies on the senses is direct perception. In order to eliminate the criticism of others regarding mental direct perception, the definition of mental direct perception is explained. The consciousness of the senses, the object that it possesses, is immediately after that, because there is no interval between them, so it is immediately after that. Interval also refers to obstacles and differences. Therefore, because the interval is blocked, the second moment of the same kind produced by the proximate cause of the object of sensory consciousness should be understood as, if this is the case, then the moment of the object of sensory consciousness belonging to the same continuum takes the later moment. That which operates together with sensory consciousness, that which possesses sensory consciousness, should be called that. Operating together also has two ways: helping each other and accomplishing one thing together. Here, because it is unreasonable to prove the difference between momentary things, it should be understood that accomplishing one thing together is operating together. Both the object and consciousness work together on one consciousness. Like this, both work together on it.

It is because it is the one that can function. Such sense consciousness, in the way that it harms the object, in order to dispel the sleep of the yogi, therefore, the similar immediate condition is mentioned. Because it does not recognize the similar, it is similar, and because there is no gap, it is immediate. It is both similar and a cause, so it is a condition, that is, the immediate condition, which is produced by it. This shows that only the sense consciousness and the mind consciousness that belong to the same category can be produced, and when they become the things that produce and are produced, the mind consciousness is said to be manifest. Therefore, it also eliminates the yogi's consciousness following other continuums. When the object of sense consciousness is different from the object of mind consciousness, it eliminates the fault of "because it clings to what has already been clung to, it cannot be a valid cognition." When clinging to the moment arising from the proximate cause of the object of sense consciousness, because it does not cling to other objects that are not clung to by sense consciousness, it eliminates the fault of becoming blind and deaf, etc., which do not exist. That mind consciousness is also considered manifest when the function of the eye has ceased. When there is the function of the eye, all the forms that are cognized depend only on the eye, and if it were not so, then no consciousness should depend on the eye. The manifestness of mind consciousness is proclaimed from the boundary of being established or not established. There is no valid cognition that can establish it. In order to show that even if such a manifestness is allowed to exist, there is no fault, therefore, its characteristics are shown. To show self-awareness, it is said: The mind is only grasping the meaning. Mental factors, such as happiness, etc., are grasping the state of differentiation. Everything is like that, both mind and mental factors. In order to eliminate the doubt that "only experiencing happiness, etc., is clear, so it is self-awareness, not other states of mind," therefore, "everything" is said, that is, any state of mind itself.
