It is earth. Therefore, saying that either is acceptable is a comprehensive statement. If there is no mixture with speech, how should it be understood? Because appearance is uncertain. Appearance is uncertain also because there is no cause for certain appearance. When the object of grasping generates consciousness, it definitely generates appearance, for example, when form generates eye consciousness, it generates definite appearance. Conceptual consciousness is not born from the object. Therefore, since the cause of definite appearance is uncertain, appearance is uncertain. If asked, what is the obvious evidence that conceptualization does not arise from objects? Because it does not rely on nearby objects. Children, as long as they have not seen it, do not consider it to be what they have seen before, so they do not put their mouths to the nipple until they stop sucking. The consciousness that unifies what was seen before and what is seen later is not characterized by a nearby object, because what was seen before is not nearby. That which is not characterized by a nearby object does not rely on the object, and if it does not rely on the object, because there is no cause for definite appearance, appearance is uncertain, and such consciousness is easily mixed with speech. Sensory consciousness relies on the object because it only grasps what is nearby, and the object is also the cause of definite appearance, so appearance is definite. Therefore, it is not easily mixed with speech. For this very reason, even if one admits that the self-characteristic is the object to be spoken and the object that speaks, it is said to be non-conceptual. If the self-characteristic is only the object to be spoken and the object that speaks, then the consciousness of the object mixed with speech is conceptual consciousness. Sensory consciousness appears through the object, therefore it is not easily mixed with speech, and because it is not appearance, it is non-conceptual. If so, then ear consciousness grasps the self-characteristic of sound, and some of the self-characteristics of sound are to be spoken and some are capable of speaking, therefore it will appear as easily mixed with speech, and if so, then it is the same as conceptualization...

If someone asks, will there be such a fault? There is no such fault, even if things do exist in the nature of what can be said and what can be said, if what is seen is taken as real at the time of expression, then what can be said and what can be said will also be taken as real. The thing itself that is the object of sight existing at the time of expression does not exist now. For example, the sight that existed at the time of expression has now ceased, and similarly, the meaning of its object does not exist now. Therefore, since ear consciousness does not cling to what is seen in autumn, it does not cling to the things that can be said and that can be said. In this way, although the wisdom of a yogi manifests all sounds and meanings, it is not conceptual because it does not cling to what is seen at the time of expression. The so-called "that" refers to conceptualization, being separated from the nature of conceptualization, that is, the wisdom that is emptiness and without confusion, that is direct perception, and should be combined with the following text. Being free from conceptualization and without confusion, it is because mutual dependence is the characteristic of direct perception, but not separately. In order to show this, what is free from that and without confusion is direct perception, showing that the mutual dependence of the two characteristics is the object of direct perception. Cataracts are harmful to the eyes, and the cause of this confusion exists in the sense faculty. Rapidly rotating is a torch, etc. If the torch, etc., is rotated slowly, the illusion of a wheel will not occur. Therefore, mentioning rapid is to distinguish the confusion. That cause exists in the object. Traveling by boat means riding in a boat. Traveling by boat will produce the illusion that wood, etc., is moving, so riding is mentioned. The cause of this confusion exists in an external support. Disturbance refers to wind, bile, and phlegm, etc. When disturbed by wind, etc., the illusion of burning will occur on pillars, etc. The cause of this confusion exists internally. The cause of confusion existing in the sense faculty, the cause of confusion existing in the object, the cause of confusion existing in an external support, and the cause of confusion existing internally, all of these will make the sense faculty twofold, the sense faculty not
