A Detailed Explanation of the Drop of Reasoning. Chokchok. A Detailed Explanation of the Drop of Reasoning. Chokchok. In Sanskrit: Nyāyabinduṭīkā. In Tibetan: A Detailed Explanation of the Drop of Reasoning. Homage to the noble Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta! The cause of the constant arising of the suffering of birth, Victorious over beings, from desire, Etc., the words of the Sugata, endowed with enemies, Victorious is he who acts in the darkness of the mind. "Valid cognition," etc., states the purpose of what is to be expressed in this treatise. The body of the treatise is of two kinds: sound and meaning. Among these, the purpose of sound is only to show what is to be expressed, and not anything else, therefore it is not analyzed. If what is to be expressed is itself without purpose, then the composition of words to show it would also become unnecessary. For example, just as one with understanding does not undertake to examine the teeth of a crow because they are unnecessary. Therefore, in order to show that this treatise should be composed, it states the purpose of what is to be expressed. The meaning of these is that because valid cognition precedes the accomplishment of all the purposes of a person, therefore this was composed in order to show it. Here, the purpose of valid cognition, which is what is to be expressed in the treatise, is stated as the very cause of accomplishing all the purposes of a person, therefore it is a statement of purpose. In stating this meaning, the connection, purpose, and what is to be expressed are also shown. Thus, when it is said that this treatise is to show valid cognition, which benefits the purposes of a person, then valid cognition is what is to be expressed in this composition of words, and showing it is the purpose. This treatise is said to be a means to the purpose, therefore, by stating the purpose of what is to be expressed, the connection and so forth are indicated by implication. A single statement cannot directly express the connection, what is to be expressed, and the purpose, but when one is stated, the three are indicated by implication. Among these, "it" refers to the words of what is to be expressed. "Show" refers to the words of the purpose.

Thus. The necessity for the speaker to strive to compose a treatise, and the necessity for the listeners to listen should also be considered here. Like this, all those who possess thought, their entry (into the subject) is after examining the necessity that they enter. Therefore, why did the teacher compose the treatise? And why do the listeners listen? The instruction given to this question that has become a doubt is necessity, so it is said. In order to make oneself a teacher of those who understand correct knowledge, this treatise was composed. And the disciples also, because they want to understand the content taught by the teacher, listen to this treatise, therefore, the necessity of both composing and listening to the treatise is understanding. There are no words that show the connection, but it should be understood through implication. Like this, in order to explain correct knowledge, those who possess thought compose this treatise, this itself is the method, and not another, through the explanation itself, the treatise and the necessity are the connection of the method and what arises from the method. Although what is to be said before listening to the treatise, etc., has been explained, but because there is no प्रमाण (pramāṇa, प्रमाण, pramaana, proof/evidence), those who possess thought will not accept it, is it not? What is the use of explaining those in terms of writing? It is true that even if it is said before hearing the treatise, it will not be certain, but if it is explained, doubts will arise about what is said, etc., which has no प्रमाण (pramāṇa, प्रमाण, pramaana, proof/evidence), and from doubt one will also enter (into the subject). That those who possess thought have doubts about the meaning is a factor of entry, and having doubts about what will not become meaning is also a factor of withdrawal, therefore, the act of writing itself should explain the connection, etc. The words of the narrators may change for the purpose of love, etc., but the authors, when writing a treatise, will not enter if they do not see the necessity of inverting the explanation of what is to be said, etc., therefore, one should have doubts about those. If it is not explained, then thinkers may think that what is said in this treatise is as unnecessary as examining the teeth of a crow, or that there is a treasure on the head of the dragon king's residence that cures epidemics.
