If it is certain that life and so on are the dharma of things, and therefore it involves some of them, then it cannot be certain that it only involves non-self, so how can it be certain that it follows? For the opponent, there is nothing related to self, so this reason has neither following nor contradiction for what is related to self, so for what is related to self, neither following nor contradiction is certain, isn't it? If you doubt its existence, then for things related to self, life and so on, neither following nor contradiction is certain, and it is not for non-self either. For "related to self and non-self", look at the dependence on the former word. If you ask how it is not certain that both following and contradiction are not certain? The answer is, if it is certain that one of following or contradiction is missing, then there is no doubt that there is no other, because if it exists, it will not be mistaken to determine existence. Its thing is itself, therefore. Because if it is certain that one is missing, then if the other does not exist, it is missing, so it cannot be certain that both are missing in one. If you ask why it is certain that one is missing, it will not be mistaken to determine that the other exists? The answer is, following and contradiction are both the nature of mutual distinction, because it has been said that mutual distinction is without things. What is that nature? That nature is itself, therefore. Following and contradiction are both existence and non-existence. Existence and non-existence are both the nature of mutual distinction. If something is distinguished, then what is completely distinguished is what exists completely abandoned, and one's own non-existence distinguishes and also completely distinguishes existence. Therefore, because one's own non-existence distinguishes, it exists as existence. Non-existence is the nature of not being shown how by discrimination, and nature is also the nature of distinction, just like self and non-self, it will completely distinguish. If so, then not following is contradiction, and not contradiction is following. Therefore, not following

If it is certain that there is reversal, then it is also certain that there is concomitance; if it is certain that there is no reversal, then it is also certain that there is concomitance. Therefore, if it is said that the self and the non-self are non-existent things, then even so, it cannot be certain that it does not have the concomitance and reversal of ants, etc., because existence and non-existence are mutually contradictory in one thing at the same time, so it cannot be certain that both do not exist. The opponent gives up, and the things with self and without self are also not existence or non-existence. So what is it? It is due to the power of valid cognition (Pramana), so there is doubt about both. Therefore, for these two, there is doubt about the existence or non-existence of the reversal of life and so on. Because of this, for some things, it is not certain that both concomitance and reversal exist, nor is it certain that they do not exist, so there is doubt about both concomitance and reversal. If for some things, it is certain that one of the concomitance and reversal does not exist, then it is certain that both exist, so it will not only be doubtful about the concomitance and reversal. Because for some things, existence and non-existence cannot be determined, and precisely because of this, there is doubt about both concomitance and reversal. Doubt is uncertainty. Why is it uncertain? Because for the thing to be proved and the thing opposite to it, doubting concomitance and reversal in this way, there is no certainty, if there is doubt about existence or non-existence for the similar side and the dissimilar side, then the thing to be proved cannot be established, and the thing opposite to it cannot be established. There is no other form besides the form of self and non-self, therefore, because it has life and so on, for the living subject, doubting whether there is self or no self, so life and so on are uncertain. Is the third aspect unestablished and doubtful, pointing out the fault of the argument? To conclude, it is said that, like this, according to the order just mentioned, among the three aspects, whenever each aspect is established or doubtful, or when two aspects are unestablished or doubtful, then the establishment, contradiction, and uncertain fallacious arguments at that time, and the corresponding...
