The so-called "because sound arises" is the reason. The sound arising refers to the sound of a peacock arising. If asked, how does it become an unestablished basis? The answer is, it is like not understanding the place where the sound arises. It means that the place from which the peacock's sound arises is called that sound. If one does not know where the peacock's sound arises and becomes confused, this is an unestablished basis. For example, in many intersecting valleys, one does not know whether only this valley emits the peacock's sound or whether it comes from elsewhere. When one is confused about the valley from which the peacock's sound arises, at that time it is called an unestablished basis. The so-called "for example" refers to using an unestablished example even if the subject of the argument is unestablished. To reside and exist in all places is to exist in all places, meaning to pervade all places. To prove that "I" am all-pervasive, a statement like "the essence itself is observed in all places" is a sign. My essence, such as happiness and suffering, desire and anger, etc., is observed in all places, and that is the thing itself. Essence cannot exist without something possessing essence, because essences are related to things possessing essence, and "I" am unwavering. Therefore, if it is not all-pervasive, how can happiness, etc., observed in the south, be observed in the center? Therefore, "I" exist in all places. In this regard, if Buddhists believe that "I" is not established at all, then what can be established by its essence itself being observed in all places? This is like the appearance of an unestablished reason. The difference between these two is that the former shows doubt about the subject of the argument by doubting the basis. This shows that the subject of the argument is unestablished. Therefore, the unestablishment of the subject of the argument and its relation in one way is also the appearance of an unestablished reason. Similarly, if the mode of "non-existence in other dissimilar aspects" is not established, it is also the appearance of a certain reason. The so-called certainty is to be certain only in one thing, because there is a need, so it is certain. This is uncertain, because it is neither certain for what is to be proven, nor certain for the opposite, but rather doubt arises in a reversed way. The so-called certainty is to be certain only in one thing.

It has been shown that the reason for hesitation and ambiguity is called "indefinite." For example, the word "for example" is used to give examples. Whatever is permanent, etc., is the dharma of permanence, etc. The word "etc." can be understood as not just arising, as well as arising from effort and permanence itself. Whatever is measurable, etc., is the dharma of measurability, etc. The word "etc." can be understood as impermanence itself, as well as impermanence itself again, and non-corporeal itself. If one wants to establish the dharma of permanence, etc., on sound as the subject, then all four examples with measurability, etc., as the subject are indefinite because they cannot be established as non-existent in the dissimilar side. For example, sound is permanent because it is measurable, like space and a pot. In this statement, measurability pervades both the similar and dissimilar sides. Sound is not newly produced because it is impermanent, like lightning, space, and a pot. In this statement, impermanence exists in lightning, etc., but does not exist in space, etc., so it exists in one part of the similar side. It pervades the dissimilar side because it exists in all newly produced things. Sound is newly produced because it is impermanent itself, like a pot, lightning, and space. In this statement, impermanence itself exists in lightning, etc., but does not exist in space, etc., so it exists in one part of the dissimilar side. It pervades the similar side because it exists in all newly produced things. Sound is permanent because it is not corporeal, like space, atoms, karma, and a pot. In this statement, non-corporeality itself exists in one part of both sides, that is, space and karma exist in one part of both sides, atoms exist in one part of the similar side, and a pot, etc., do not exist in one part of the dissimilar side, because a pot and atoms, etc., are corporeal. The Vaisheshikas acknowledge that atoms are permanent, so they belong to the dissimilar side. These kinds of dharmas.
