Because there is no certainty as to where. If someone asks: From the non-perception of appearance, is it not certain that the appearance is reversed? Answer: That is indeed correct, but if only a ghost appears in one consciousness, then if vases and so on exist, they will become merely appearances, and this is an attachment to appearances. From that, it is certain that appearance is not perceived. Through the power of determining the non-perception of appearance, it is also certain that there is no appearance, If there is something that can appear there, then the non-perception of appearance cannot be established. Therefore, if one understands the absence of appearance through the power of the non-perception of appearance, it is not making a distinction, but rather naming it through the non-perception of appearance. Therefore, when other things appear mixed in one consciousness, that consciousness is the cause of determining the reversal of direct perception, and therefore it should be regarded as showing the reversal of direct perception. Even if it has been determined that it does not exist, but it appears as direct perception in one consciousness, just as a vase is direct perception to the vase itself, for things that are connected without confusion in one consciousness in the past and present, even if the vase of its own nature does not exist, it should be regarded as fabricated. This shows that the non-perception of appearance is the nature of the reversal of the vase through direct perception, and since it has already been established, the non-existence of the vase is not something that needs to be proven, but merely a name for non-existence. For vases and so on, seeing them gives rise to the nature of memory, which is not confused, that is, it exists without disappearing, and that is what is called. Combine the past direct perception of the arguer with the present direct perception of the argument. Saying the non-confused memory act is not to specifically distinguish the present, because if one sees the place empty of the past vase, the memory act will be confused, one will be confused about the non-perception of the vase, and one will be confused about seeing the vase. For the present, from seeing the place empty of the vase, there is no confusion in the memory act. Therefore, there is no confusion about the non-perception of the vase, and there is no confusion about the vase. Therefore, saying the non-confused memory act is not to specifically distinguish the object of refutation in the present, because for the things of the present, the memory act does not exist due to confusion.

Therefore, the word "and" is used for the terms "past" and "present." How can one understand the inclusion of "present," which is separated from distinctions, and "past," which possesses distinctions? It is done in this way. The meaning of this is: to clearly remember the invisible of the past, while the present is a valid cognition (pramāṇa). Thus, previously there was no pot here, because it was not seen. Like this, it is sufficient to know "it is not, because it is invisible." However, it is not possible to understand "it is impossible for there to be a pot here, because invisibility causes impossibility," because there will be doubt about the invisibility of the future. Therefore, after explaining the temporal distinctions of invisibility, the function is shown. The term "non-existence" is the consciousness of the form of "non-existence," and the sound with such a form, and the term of non-existence of the body, which is the nature of going and coming without doubt. If one knows that there is no pot, then one will engage in going and coming without doubt. The term "non-existence" applies to all three of these aspects, and what establishes it is the invisibility of visible appearance. If one thinks again that there is no pot, then it arises solely from invisibility. Although the ascertainment of non-existence is also this, nevertheless, because there is attachment to a small aspect of the object of direct perception, therefore, the ascertainment of "there is no pot here" in this way follows the function of direct perception. Therefore, the ascertainment of non-existence that follows the function of direct perception, which grasps a small aspect of the object, is what is done by direct perception. Furthermore, according to the manner previously explained, although it is possible to ascertain non-existence by direct perception itself, solely through the force of the determination of visible invisibility, nevertheless, because one may doubt the existence of what is seen, the term "non-existence" is merely used to express negation. Therefore, invisibility, because it is invisible to appearance, is why the term "non-existence" is used. Therefore, visible invisibility is used to make one understand non-existence, but not for what has not been understood. Therefore, although the ascertainment of non-existence arises from invisibility, it is not invisible to what is done by direct perception.
