So, what is the object to be inferred? Therefore, it is called "object to be inferred" because here, in order to possess the distinction of wanting to know, the term "subject" is mentioned. The "here" refers to the definition of the reason. Wanting to know is wanting to realize. "Distinction" refers to particularity. Whatever possesses the distinction of wanting to know is the one possessing the distinction of wanting to know. Wherever the dharmas exist, that is the subject. Therefore, it is said that the subject whose distinction one wants to realize is the object to be inferred. It should be understood that this is in the context of the definition of the reason, and this will be shown. Alternatively, the subject distinguished by the dharma is the object to be inferred. Then, what is the similar instance? The similar instance is the one that agrees with the general meaning of the dharma to be established, and the term "agreeing in meaning" is mentioned. Inferring similarly is similarity. It should be completely determined by similar knowledge, which is a synonym for "similarity." Whatever is similar in meaning is the similar instance. In what way is it similar? Therefore, it is said, "with the general of the dharma to be established." That which is to be established is also a dharma, so it is the dharma to be established. Its "general" is the general of the dharma to be established. The distinction of the dharma to be established is for the sake of separately determining each meaning. Although it does not contradict it, it is not similar, so it is said, "with the general of the dharma to be established." Then, what is the dissimilar instance? The dissimilar instance is that which is not a similar instance, and it is said, "not a similar instance." Whatever is not a similar instance is called a dissimilar instance. "Different from it" refers to whatever is different from the similar instance. For example, wanting to establish the touch of heat, like an object that is neither cold nor hot. "Contradictory to it" refers to being contradictory to that similar instance. For example, wanting to establish only the touch of heat, and a cold object appears. "Without it" refers to the absence of a similar instance. For example, the Sautrāntika school wants to establish the two aspects of impermanence.

Just as in existence, the mere absence of impermanence itself is a dissimilar aspect. Because for space and so on, since they are permanent, they do not accept anything. A dissimilar aspect is called dissimilar because it is not a similar aspect in three ways. Non-existence is not an actual similar aspect. Otherness and contradiction are actually the absence of a similar aspect through transmission. As it is said, what is the reason that possesses the characteristics of the stated reason? Therefore (it is said like this). It is said that these three modes possess only the remaining three, just as the three modes shown exist only in the three, and there is no more. The word "is" means kind. All three signs should be observed in these three ways, not in one or two ways. Then, what are these three signs? It is said non-apprehension, nature, and effect, and the three signs are shown by their respective names. Among them, non-apprehension is to temporarily show the nature of non-apprehension. For example, it is a word of metaphor. "There is no pot in a certain place" is a word close to the place. The explanation for this should be done like this: "There is no pot in a certain place," this "certain place" shows the subject of the proposition. This "place" is what distinguishes that, meaning that there is no pot in the place the proponent wants, not that there is no pot in all places, nor in any place. From being an object of cognition, it is certain to show the difference of reason. The word "object" shows that it is knowledge. Because that is what should be known, it is the object of knowledge, a synonym for the word "object." The object of the object is the object of the object. Becoming that is the object of the object, meaning it is suitable to become the object itself. "Because the ground of the dwelling is not seen," and so on, means because it is not visible. Like this, the place and so on are the nature of similar appearances, such as pots and so on.
