It is like seeing the result of the two changes. Therefore, it is said that "the knowledge of perception itself is the fruit (phala) of valid cognition (pramāṇa)." The knowledge of perception itself is the fruit of valid cognition, and there is no other fruit apart from perception. If someone asks, why is it said to be the nature of the fruit of perception? Therefore, it is said, "Because it is the nature of understanding the meaning." Understanding is certainty. Whatever perception possesses the real thing, its nature is to understand the meaning. Its reality is only the nature of understanding the meaning, therefore, because it is the nature of understanding the meaning. That is to say, in the expression of establishing valid cognition and object of valid cognition (prameya), the characteristic of determining the meaning becomes the fruit. Knowledge is the nature of determining the meaning, and perception is also considered to be the nature of knowledge. Therefore, perception is the nature of determining the meaning,

Because proximity is also common, like the senses, it is not the cause of distinct establishment. Because the result is not common, it becomes the cause of distinct establishment of each, like this, for the knowledge of blue, whatever is the knowledge of blue, it does not exist for the knowledge of yellow and so on, it will make distinct establishment. When it is the aspect of blue, this is the understanding of blue, but it is not yellow, because of that, being similar to the object itself is valid cognition. The Extensive Explanation of the Drop of Reason, Chapter One, Beneficial to Students, is completed. Having shown that valid cognition has two aspects by the distinction of direct perception and inference, direct perception has already been explained with elaboration. Intending to explain inference, it is said that inference is of two kinds, inference should be understood as two kinds. Because the nature of knowing and expressing, the two inferences of one's own and others' meaning are very different, so if there is not even a little bit of dissimilar nature, then what should be used to first describe the nature? If a detailed distinction is made, then the nature of each determination can be easily stated, therefore, the detailed distinction is shown first. The meaning of oneself and the meaning of others, this uses the difference to show that there are only two. Here, saying "meaning" is what needs to be done, it is the meaning of one's own needs and the needs of others. It should be understood that what one understands oneself is one's own meaning, and what makes others understand is the meaning of others. Among them, one's own meaning is the knowledge that arises from the sign with three characteristics for the object to be inferred, because this has three characteristics, so this has three characteristics. Because it can express meaning, it is a sign. Because that is to be inferred, it is to be inferred. For the object to be inferred, the knowledge that arises from the cause with three characteristics is called one's own meaning inference. In order to exclude the knowledge that arises from things that appear to be permanent, that is inference itself, so it is said "three characteristics". Sign

In order to exclude the knowledge being these two, perception and inference, therefore it is said "inferable". Saying "knowledge" is to exclude the sign as the basis becoming a direct inference. If it is thought that the object of inference, knowledge, is valid cognition, then what fruit would there be? Therefore, here it is also said, "Establishing the fruit of valid cognition is similar to direct perception." Just as in direct perception, knowledge itself is said to be the fruit of the characteristic, so here also the knowledge of inference itself is the fruit of valid cognition, because it has the nature of determining meaning. Just as being similar to the meaning of direct perception is valid cognition, so being similar to the meaning of inference itself is valid cognition, because by means of it, the determination of meaning is accomplished. Starting from the sign with three modes. One might wonder what these three modes are? Therefore, it is said, "The sign with three modes is," the thing with three modes is the three modes themselves. The so-called "existence on the inferable" means that existence on the nature of the inferable, which will appear below, is one mode. Because it is said "exists on it," therefore, such as "because the eye can see," and so on. Saying "showing" is to exclude not being established on one side, and so on. The so-called "existence on the similar side" means existence on the homogeneous side, which is the second mode. Here, saying "exists" is to exclude the uncommon uncertain. Saying "showing" is to exclude the common and certain. Saying "both" is to exclude the contradictory. The so-called "non-existence on the dissimilar side" means complete non-existence on the heterogeneous side, which is the third mode. Here, saying "does not exist" is to exclude the common uncertain and the contradictory. Saying "showing" is to completely abandon existence on one side of the dissimilar side. The so-called "certainty" is said last. Through the abandonment of the three themselves, one should also understand the three through it. These three modes themselves should be understood as being determined by what kind of valid cognition. Otherwise, it will not be possible to have confidence in inference. Following
