It is said that this is to be stated as following only that much. That which is called 'by showing' is a synonym for showing the general characteristic or the specific characteristic. Wherever there is smoke, there is fire, and if there is no fire, there is no smoke anywhere, like a hearth and others. This means that, for the time being, whether it is the general characteristic of the reason of the effect or its own characteristic, it should be clearly shown in this way. That is, by clearly showing that it exists on the similar side, it should undoubtedly be said to be like a hearth. Otherwise, it is not possible to show that it exists on the similar side. Similarly, by saying that it turns back from the dissimilar side, it should undoubtedly be said to be like water. Otherwise, it will not be possible to show the turning back itself. Birth is also shown in the same way, that is, if there is fire, there is smoke, because that is its result. Because it expresses that, wherever there is smoke, there is undoubtedly fire, like a hearth and so on. Wherever there is something made, there is impermanence, and if there is no impermanence, there cannot be something made, like a pot and the sky. By saying 'it should be shown in this way,' it shows how to show the general and specific characteristics of the reason of nature. Here too, if it is not said 'like a pot,' then it is not possible to show that it exists on the similar side. If it is not said 'like the sky,' then it is not possible to show the turning back. Following only that much can also be shown in the same way, that is, if wherever there is something made, there is undoubtedly impermanence, like a pot, when it is shown in that way, it shows the relationship of following only that much. Otherwise, it is not possible to show the states of existing on the similar side and not existing on the dissimilar side as mentioned before. That which is called 'by showing existence on the dissimilar side,' if it is not said 'like a hearth' or 'like a pot,'

If so, at that time, it is not shown to exist in the similar side. If it is shown not to exist in the dissimilar side, like water. If it is not said like the sky, then not only is the pervasion not shown, but it is also said that the general characteristic cannot be shown for the time being. In order to show that the specific characteristic cannot be shown, it is said, "Is the sign of the effect necessarily its effect?" Its effect is its effect. Its entity is necessarily its effect, that is, if there is a cause, there is an effect. Whatever is determined to be so is called determined to be its effect. The sign of nature is called pervaded by nature. The essence of being pervaded by nature is pervaded by nature, which is the meaning of merely following. Neither of the two can be shown without showing an example. When the general characteristic of the reason or the specific characteristic is shown to some of the subjects mentioned above, then only the example is shown. Why is that? Because it is said, "Therefore, its nature is only so much." Like this, its nature is only so much. For example, where something is shown to follow the reason by what is to be proven, that is an example of the similar class. Where, if what is to be proven does not exist, it is shown that the reason does not exist, that is an example of the dissimilar class. This eliminates the faults of the examples. Whenever, wherever, the general characteristic of the reason or the specific characteristic is shown, that is a correct example. When it is said that whatever cannot show those two characteristics is said to be a similar example. Showing examples, for example, "Sound is permanent, because it is not corporeal, like action, atoms, and a pot," this is saying that both what is to be proven and what proves it do not exist. Sound is permanent, because it is not corporeal, other than action, this is saying that the dharma to be proven does not exist. Like atoms, this is the proving

There is no pervasive dharma. Like a pot, this means that neither dharma exists. Similarly, doubting the dharma to be proven, etc., means: because there is doubt about the dharma to be proven here, the sentence is constructed in this way. Whatever doubts the dharma to be proven, etc., that is what is said. Showing examples. For example, because of speaking, one has attachment, etc., like a person on a great road, this is doubting the dharma to be proven. This person has the dharma of death because he has attachment, like a person on a great road, this is much doubt about the dharma to be proven. Because he has attachment, etc., he is not omniscient, like a person on a great road, this is doubt about the dharma to be proven. No following means that there is no following for anything. Not fully showing the following means that there is a following for something but it is not fully shown. Showing examples, for example, whoever speaks has attachment, etc., like a person of desire, this has no following, because there is nothing that can pervade him with words and attachment, etc., and nothing that can become a pervasive thing or a cause and effect thing. Sound is impermanent because it is made, like a pot, this has a following but it is not fully shown. Similarly, the reverse following means that the example thing or cause has a reverse following, so the sentence is constructed. Showing examples, whatever is impermanent is made, like this, for this, whatever is made is impermanent, it should be said like this, but, whatever is impermanent is made, it is said reversely like this. Because the dharma is the same, it means that all of those are examples of the same dharma appearing. Because the dharma is not the same, it means showing examples of the dharma not being the same appearing. Like atoms, karma, and space, not turning back from what is to be proven, etc.
